More playlist features requested

I really like the new playlist feature and can see Plex replacing Google Music for me real soon. Mainly because Plex lets me already do 90% of what GM does but without the 20k limit...plus I would rather have Plex be my one app for everything (just need the ebook viewer now). Right now I use a couple features that do not seem possible with Plex.

1. Ratings per song - Right now you can rate an Artist and Album, but I don't see a way to rate the individual songs. The page for the Artist or Album that has the list of songs. Right now that list is just the song name and length. Maybe add a rating column here?

2. Automatic Playlist based on Rating - Google Music uses a Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down rating system. Anything you Thumbs Up goes into a Thumbs Up Playlist. Since Plex is star based maybe it would add anything with a 3+ stars...or maybe allow the user to select how many stars+ they want.

3. In the Music section - Add a Type for Songs. Sometimes when i filter the Music section I want to see every song, not just the Album or Artist names.

4. More filter categories - Right now it is just Collection and Genre. Add filters for Rating, Year Released/Added, etc... I like the way the movie section does this, if I filter by Year I can select all Years I want. That would be great if you wanted all songs from 91-96 or 67-73.

5. Sync Playlists - all songs in that playlist sync to the device. In GM I have it sync my entire Thumbs Up list to my phone. It syncs about 5k songs. All of them are songs my GF or I like and they are available offline, ready for use anywhere. Great when jogging or on the beach where i have no internet access...or don't want to eat up all my data plan.

6. Multi-tier filtered Playlists - For example, automatic playlists for all songs with say 3+ stars and in the Blues genre. Just like you can filter in the Movie section, but as an automatic-playlist.

7. Reordering the Queue - Google Musics Android app has a great queue. Looks similar to Plex's Up Next on the Web app, allows you to swipe to remove a song, but also allows you to grab the left side of each song to move and reorder the songs.

8. Playlists of playlists. Allow a Playlist to contain another playlist.

Thanks and keep up the great work.

Thanks for the feedback! We will be continuing to improve the smart playlist support, and are aware that there are some major improvements to be made to music track based ones. That's some really useful suggestions. Thanks!

We do support (7) for non-smart playlists - ones that you have created from individual albums, artists or tracks. You can grab the lefthand handle of an item and reorder.

I have no doubt you guys will be improving it. The Devs must have Mountain Dew IV’s the way they crank features & updates out.

Yeah, I seen on the Playlists page where you can reorder them, but this would be for the Whats Next pop-up.  This way you can reorder them on the fly, and it won't save the change to the playlist, it would just reorder/remove what is upcoming. Here is a screenshot from my phone...

Just click the 3 Line Music Note icon on the top and the list appears, click again to hide it. Same 3 line grips that you guys used on the Playlist page are used to grab the song and move it around, swipe to remove, Ellipse button on the right for more options..

If you're playing back in web, you can reorder the items in your 'Up Next' - it's just well hidden :)

Drag anywhere on the item, and you reorder them temporarily:

Hope that's at least some help!

Your right, you can on the Web Client. I must not have clicked it right when I tried before. Just need this in the Android App now.  :D

Awesome, thanks for working on new features in that realm. I'm in the same boat as murdercity and would love to see some extensive new features added for playlists.

And also, I use playlist mostly for Movie collections.

So what I would like is to have the next movie in the playlist to show On Deck.

One way to approximate the 'next item in playlist on deck', for smart playlists, is to add an 'unwatched' filter. You can then go to then play that playlist and it'll show the next movie.

(Not quite the same, but maybe of some help).

I love the playlist feature. I second murdercity’s sync feature. Would be amazing to sync my playlists!

#1  YES!!!!

#2  Sure

#3  Needed for #4

#4  YES!!!!!!!! (have to filter out the crap in my library)

#5  Meh  (if #4 works, then I create a playlist from the filter and then sync that play list)

#6  Yes

#7  ---

#8  Maybe, but do 1,3 & 4 first

(don't forget to click 'Like This' on the first post).

They added #3 to the Plex/Web

Glad it was spotted :)

We'll continue improving the playlist features. Thanks again for the help.

A great post! I especially agree with the quoted above!
