Movie metadata edit

So here is how it started - I donwloades a movie (The matrix) but I wasn’t satisfied about the two black stripes above and under the picture so I used a software WinX HD Video Conventer Deluxe to convert it to 16:9 (1.77:1) ratio and everything was fine until I was browsing in Plex and I found out that instead of actors iformation I have just one actor (WinX HD Video Conventer Deluxe). Apparently that converter changes the metadata of the movie and replacing it with it’s own. If it is a trial version it is fine however I was using the full one. Because there was no option in WinX converter to tell it not to do that i decided to download the same movie but different release and replace it in my plex library. I did it but I was unplesantly surprised that metadata stayed the same. Apparently Plex is saving that information in some database and even with replacing the movie with a new different release one it doesn’t read the metadata from the movie file itself but from someplace else.

So my question is how to reload or fix metadata on a movie or make Plex re-read it.
Thank you in advance and sorry for the long post.

Download mp3tag and use it to strip out all metadata from that file.
You can use it afterwards, to ‘optimize for streaming’ your file as well (recommended for a streaming media server  )

Here is a config change for Plex which will give downloaded metadata priority over embedded metadata:

Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Tried it and it’s working !! Thanks a lot OttoKerner.
