Movie stutters slighty when camera is moving fast

I am experiencing a slight stutter/freeze when the camera is moving fast ,like going over a landscape or so.
I have this on a Apple TV 4k. In combo with a synology nas.
The video it currently has this is MKV ,h264 1080p..
I tried switching to direct stream instead of direct play but it didn’t help.
I once found a topic about this on reddit ,but cant find it anymore.

This is typically a situation where the video bandwidth is spiking.
If the player is only connected by WiFi, the available bandwidth might simply not be enough to deliver the data fast enough for this short moment.

A test:
open the Plex web app in a web browser. Go to the Dashboard and look at the Bandwidth graph.
Now start playback on the ATV. Start at ~ 3 – 5 minutes before the troublesome scene.

Follow the bandwidth graph.
It is normal for it to go to the maximum possible directly after playback start. However, after a while it should settle down a bit.
Pay attention when the scene comes up.
Does the bandwidth spike? If so, at which number?

Now call up the plex media info XML of that video. (you may need to use “show source” if you’re using the Safari browser).
Copy the first ~20 lines from that XML file and paste them here.

Thanks for ur reply.

Im on my phone , forgive me if its not enough info.
Its hard to determine the spikes but it happens randomly. If i look at the graph i definitely see some spikes. My bandwidth is unlimited and 1gbps.
ATV 4K is connected wired.

Judging by these data, it doesn’t look too bad. The highest spikes are about double of the average bitrate. I’ve seen worse.

Did you enable Refresh Rate Switching?
(I’m actually not sure if the ATV even has that setting. If it does, definitely try and compare.)

Could it be badly ripped?
Because i noticed that the stutter is actually not randomly.
Ill try ripping it again.
The ATV has a similar option thats turned on.

Can you observe the same judder when using a different Plex client type or when playing on the desktop in e.g. VLC?

I just tried on my phone plex app and its appearing there to. So i guess i did something wrong while ripping.

Edit
Tried on laptop using vlc , same issue.
So its deffinitly badly ripped.

Rip using makemkv
This will give you the full quality off the disc.
Play this file and look at the problematic scene.

Here are some transcoding settings for Handbrake which you might wanna try out:
(Red dots mark settings which have been modified from their default values in the preset named “Fast 1080p30”)

Once you have transcoded the movie again, compare how the result fares in the problematic scene.

Oh, make sure that on the tab “Filters”, everything is set to “Off” if your movie is a regular 1080p file.
