Movies listed with AAC 2.0 not playing but AAC 5.1 and Dolby Digital play

Server Version#: 4.63.0
Player Version#: 3.13.14
TiVo version#: 21.1

So recently some of my movies will not play on my LG TV with my TiVo Box (roamio)
( possibly happened after an update plex or windows i’m not sure )
Weird thing is everything everything listed with AAC 5.1 and DolbyDigital will play. Everything listed as AAC 2.0 will not play but it used to play before. as I have half watched movies in my library that will not play now.

I am also experiencing similar issues since upgrading to DSM 7. Now whenever i try to play a video from the Movie Library, I receive this message “Playback error. Conversion failed. The transcoder failed to start up” can anyone prpose a solution? This only occurs in the movie library, not the TV show library.

you figure yours out yet ?

mine is still the same result Kids Movies and Movies are not playing but TV Shows working just fine.

Hello Crownroyal. I went onto YouTube and looked at several solutions that were proposed. One was changing the permissions in the Plexmedia from the Control panel, shared folder on the dashboard, but that didn’t work. The other was a suggestion from Lon.TV on youtube who said we have use “Hardware-Accelerated Streaming in Plex Media Server” However, you need to buy a plexpass which i don’t have yet) to have that feature enabled. however, here are the links if you wish to look into further. Using Hardware-Accelerated Streaming | Plex Support and the YouTube link for Lon.TV discussing the bitrates, badwidth and transcoding for Plex. Troubleshooting Plex Playback Issues: Bitrate, Bandwidth, Transcoding, and More! - YouTube i think this guy is sponsored by Plex as well.

By the way, since I do not have Plexpass, i am still experiencing the same issue. i am somewhat chagrined that after shelling out so much for the Synology DS-220 platform and following their guidance to update to DSM 7 (which i did), I am now forced to pay additional money to have my content play properly? Something is not right there, especially when they touted the transcoding feature as one of the main feature benefits of Plex .

I will check it out, I think it might be something with codecs.

Try going to users/app data/plex sever then delete the codecs folder. But close plex 1st then reopen.

After doing that some of my movies played but not all. I also read along the way that sometimes some formats just have troubles playing because of the codecs.

Thanks for the tip! I will check it out!

Ya, I do not even have that setting available and I am on the latest version so perhaps you actually need plex pass for it to even show up. I will check out the other video since no one else is helping here.

Hey,
I think I figured it out. Can you test something for me ?

Try and play a regular movie on your TV
When selecting the movie before playing look down at the bottom and see if the movie not playing is listed as
AAC 2.0 for the audio source.

Then try and find a movie listed as Dolby Digital and AAC 5.1

Those two audio sources should play but the AAC 2.0 won’t.

Okay, I’ll look into that option as well. the codec solution proposed was not viable as i discovered that Plex had changed the configuration recently due to security concerns and the fields or area where that info was located formerly is no longer accessible.

I tried and unfortunately it didn’t work. there are a wide range of various audio sources in both libraries and many were the same type. For example, these types are in my Movie folder and would not play: (AAC Stereo),(AC3 5.1),(HE-AAC Stereo), (HE-AAC 3.0) While the following type audio sources in my TV folder would: (AAC Stereo), (AC3 5.1), (HE-AAC Stereo). So as you can see, the same audio types were found in both folders, yet the Movie folder will not play and incurs transcoding errors while the TV folder performs very well. I may have to bite the bullet and acquire a Plexpass, which still doesn’t seem fair nor good business practice from plex. I believe this should feature, (or bug) should have been disclosed.

Hey Crowndroyal. well, after much consternation, tonight I bit the bullet and bought a lifetime Plexpass subscription. Afterwards, I manually updated to the latest version and afterwards…sure enough, “Bingo”! the Hardware-Accelerated Streaming feature appeared and was enabled. I no longer have any issues viewing content from any container. I hope you’ve likewise been successful?
