Ever since purchasing PlexPass I have been having problems with some titles on Direct Play. There is a big buffering issues where it just stutters through the entire movie. If I pause it and let it sit for a few minutes it seems to catch up a few seconds but then goes right back to stuttering.
No dice @trumpy81 with the disabling “Enable Relay”. I guess I am going to have to look at redoing my network setup to see if I am still having a disconnection issue. I find it odd though that this wouldn’t happen to all movies or shows and only a few of them.
any other settings you think I should checkout, perhaps on my router? I mange IPs for all my devices and also have access control enabled to prevent unwanted access. not sure if you might have another recommendation to try.
The Syno is wired. What about the other devices? WiFi ?
Which band? 2.4 or 5 Ghz? Non-Plex throughput to those devices over WiFi ? (signal strength / wifi saturation ??)
All the other devices are wifi. I am running a smart connect setup on Netgear so it determines if 2.4 or 5 is best, but as an example of here is one of the devices wifi details. Almost all devices that support 5Ghz are on 5Ghz
I posted the following on a Constant Buffering when using Plex on home network thread, since my experience/issues were similar. I’m sharing it here since I too think there is also an issue with macOS-, tvOS-, and possibly iPadOS-based apps (maybe an Apple issue?).
I’m having (or had) the same issues with
macOS (10.15.3) app on MacBook Pro (2016)
tvOS (13.4) app on AppleTV 4K
iPadOS (13.4) on iPad Pro (2020)
macOS (10.15.4) app on MacBook Pro (2016)
Not having (or did not have) the issue with
iOS (13.3.1) app on iPhone XS
iOS (13.4.1) app on iPhone XS
iOS (13.3) app on iPad mini 4
iPadOS (13.4.1) app on iPad mini 4
iPadOS (13.4.1) app on iPad Pro (2020)

I checked my logs against @DaddyMD’s and there were (many) similar errors:

I should probably add that the issue only exists for certain movies and my Mac and my AppleTV 4K are hardwired to the Synology NAS. I was able to fix the problem on my Mac (haven’t checked ATV4K yet) by turning off Direct Play. Would seem the issue is with the Direct Play part of the client.
@ChuckPa, Not sure you are replying to my post. If you are…
Link aggregation is not being used on my network.
I have no issues with CPU; however, when Direct Play is on local bandwidth reads about twice as high as expected (about 25 Mbps peak compared to about 11 Mbps peak when Direct Play is off).
As for subtitles, I don’t think that’s an issue because when Direct Play is off, both the video and the audio are a Direct Stream. Nonetheless, the the files I’m having an issue with have not been uploaded to the server any differently than the others. But even if there is a subtitle issue, I would have thought the client app would still know whether the file was compatible for Direct Play.
For my situation (which is resolved with Direct Play off) I can provide logs; however, I won’t post them in a public forum without redaction (which is a pain to do).
