Moving Metadata On Windows

I have searched damn near the whole internet for this one solution. I want to move my Plex server meta-data, in the local app data directory, to a new directory (My 2nd SSD).

DO NOT SEND THE FOLLOWING TUTS;
~ Talking about installing it on a new system
~ Talking about editing the registry
~ Talking about going into the web ui, and
changing the directory in, “General”, settings.

Please don’t comment these useless TUTs. I’ve been threw a countless amount of youtube videos, forum posts, and websites claiming they have the answer. They’re all outdated from
years ago, and do NOT apply to now. I don’t even have a meta-data .reg file.

I just want a straight answer, that I can do right now, to solve my issue

1 - shut down pms
2 - open registry and find the key “LocalAppDataPath”. If it’s not there, you’ll need to create it. Set the value to the new location where “Plex Media Server” will sit.
3 - Move the appdata folder starting at “Plex Media Folder” to match the path in Step 2.
4 - restart PMS

Done.

There is no way to do what you need without editing the registry (in current PMS versions). Sorry.

This post describes the entire process, in detail. It is very much up-to-date; it was last edited July 2, 2020.

Make sure you read the entirety of the first post, through the addendum.

Edited to note incorrect information.

Not entirely true. You can create a symbolic link from the original Appdata location to the new one.

Ah, that completely slipped my mind. Thanks for reminding me!

I don’t have any .regs file for the plex meta-data directory.

Update: Another user gave a fix.

Thank you!

I don’t have any .reg files pointing to the meta-data. I wasn’t sure if creating one would cause issues. Much appreciation for the solution!!!

Not sure what you mean by a .reg file. You don’t need that. Just open “RegEdit” and find the Plex entries. A .reg file is used to import/edit a registry. You could make the change that way, but that’s not the typical method.

Sorry, I’m not very experienced in this field. That’s what I did
