Moving to a new version of the OS

Server Version#:1.26.1.5798-99a4a6ac9
Player Version#:N/A

I am moving my Plex Media Server to a new hard drive under a different version of the same OS - in this case, Slackware64 Linux 14.2 to Slackware64 Linux 15.0. In the new hardware I’ll be running exactly the same version of the Plex Media Server., and this server will have access to exactly the same media files, and in the same locations, as the current one.

What Plex Media Server files and directories should I copy from my current deployment to the new one so that I can launch the new one and have things exactly as they are now?

This describes the process from start to finish; it assumes you have not installed and configured Plex Media Server on the new system yet.

If I may add here?

If you’re moving from Linux → Linux, there’s a more succinct way.

OK, thanks. In essence, it’s just a matter of cloning the /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library directory from the old filesystem into the new one in the same path.

Yes. That’s essentially it. You’ll find a tar ball is inherently faster than recursive file copying due to the number of tiny files in PMS.

OK, thanks.
