Server Version#: v1.16.0.1226 (NAS, Synology DS1817+)
Player Version#: v3.100.1 (Windows 10, Not Store Version)
In Settings under Quality I would really love to se a seperate “Video Quality” and “Audio Quality” option!!
I’m really pissed by this chaos in the setting.
Just a simple structure like this would be awesome:
Plex Media Player
Video Quality
Audio Quality
Also a option to completely disable transcoding on Server base would be awesome, becasue some servers have just a fu**ing weak CPU which would be always maxed out and not able to do good work.
So I would love to have a option to disable Video Transcoding and Audio Transcoding by Server so that ALL users on this server do not even have this option becasue Plex is not the only Service running on this server!
Or to restrict Transcoding to some specific Users (Like admin or whatever) to transcodethem offline to again just stream them, but no Live-Transcoding
Just joined the Plex community, hope to get good support here
I would still want to disable it. I know that It may cause some medias not to play on some devices.
Instead it Transcoding (in realtime) I would want to Transcode/Decode to another Codec as Background Task but completely disable it in RealTime!
So the Case is:
My Synology does not have a lot of CPU Power (like you said “That process requires an awful lot of CPU” which I dont have
I want to add also Medias (Videos/Music) which probably is not playable on some devices
if it does not play on a device they should have the possibillity to request Transcoding/Decoding to another format, but NOT in Realtime!
I mostly have 4K (2160p) HDR10+ H.265 (HEVC) Movies on my NAS which I dont want to transcode because transcoding 4K just needs a lot of power which I dont have.
Also Transcoding breaks (as far as now) the HDR to SDR option. Which you profit from if not transcoded.
So I think I still have a valid request. I want to be able to disable Transcoding for Video on the Servers which are to weak anyway to provide a good result.
If someone does not need this he can just does not disable Video Transcoding on his server.
Dont you see the point of just having a always 100%trottled CPU.
Also I want to use this NAS just for Streaming, not Transcoding, when I get a more powerful NAS I would like to activate the Option to enable Video Transcoding.
I want to be able disable Video Transcoding and Audio Transcoding.
If you think thats what sets Plex apart… well leave it on for those who think so, but give them who dont want it the option to disable it!
I never said anything from Stream anything across the NET, I’m streaming it on my Intranet, so in my home via LAN, Wlan AC, and Wlan AD, but even the NET would not be a problem in some days.
Yes my server is to weak to transcode 4K, thats why I want to take the Option to transcode Video for every user on my Server, maybe you get it now?
I dont want to transcode Serverside, I just want to Stream with Plex.
Plex gives those who wants to, the option to transcode - fine, I’m ok with that
Plex does NOT give those who just wants to stream Medias the Option to JUST do so, without transcoding, because the Client decides if the Video gets transcoded or not.
I want to rule this Server-Side.
Giving the Server-Admins the option to disable Video or Audio transcoding is not changing anything for those who wants it, its nothing thats makes Plex not being apart! But it gives those who dont want it the abillity to disable it.
Wrong, as I just want to disable the transcoding of the Video for streaming.
Yes I know how to do so, thats not the point, I just dont want my Users to be able to transcode Videos! They should not be able to do so, I should be able to do so.
Well I even streamed it on the NET and it worked, with Transcoding it will not work becasue of CPU limitations… do you see the need for disableing this option for Clients/Users now?
When using a Power PC the CPU would not be the bottleneck becasue you could easily use the GPU (GTX 1080Ti) to Transcode which does this with ease, Network is no problem for me as the NAS will be on a dedicated 1GB uplink in some days.
ALL I ask for is a option that does not hurt anyone which does not use it and does not take anything from anyone. Thats why it is called an OPTION. You can use it if you want, if not, dont use it.
On Devices with poor CPU but good connectivity this does make a lot of sense!
