Sometimes a user is having a bad time buffering, and doesn’t realize it could be better or maybe how to adjust the setting. Sometimes my NAS isn’t powerful enough to transcode and my users are actually better off using direct stream.
It’d be cool if in the dashboard (and Plex Dash app?), where the user’s playback and quality info is shown, you could override the quality they’re set to. This could either take place immediately or prompt the user (maybe with a custom message).
Thanks I also gave that one a vote, it’s not exactly this request but hits the same notes. I mostly want to keep my clients on original when it’s best for them, but still would like the ability to force it as I see it happening in the dashboard.
I know its possible to disable transcoding video in general, but I want to be able to transcode for myself, while preventing family members I give access to my plex server the inabiity to transcode (and it be nice, for instance, if their device is unable to play it without transcoding, that it gives them a reasonable error message). Is their anyway to have a per user settings that just like you can select which libraries a user has access to (and ratings what content they have access to within the library) that one can also say they can’t transcode video.
