Multiple Locations / Songs not showing up in library?

I have one server, the song in my library once, but it is showing 9 locations for the same song?

Additionally, I am looking for a particular artists song and notice that I can’t find but two songs for that artist when I know there is 20 or more. If I do a text search it finds the song, but if I do a text search for the artist it only gives me two songs. Infrequently the “search” results in different songs of the same artist being found.

Running Plex on a Windows platform with all my songs in one flat file. I saw somewhere that it was suggested that I break up the songs by artist and into folders but what a pain to file songs at a later date. Seems that the indexing of the single folder should work out of the box, so is there some limitation I am bumping into? Music Library 11688 songs at 60.4GB.

You probably mean ‘folder’.
And no, that will never work in Plex.

Tip! : When using a Premium music library, we strongly encourage you to continue organizing tracks into albums. Using a flat file list of tracks can result in the sonic fingerprinting erroring out.

Which appears to be what happens to you.

You can try and delete your ‘Premium’ music library and then recreate it as a ‘basic’ music library, but this still may exhibit issues if you have no artist/album organisation at all.

Thank you for the reply.

How do I confirm if I am getting a sonic fingerprinting error?

Is “organizing tracks into albums” about simply placing the mp3s into folders with the artists name or is there something more to it.?

Is there a guide for best practices for configuring the music file structure / overall configuration on Plex with Windows.

I already linked you to the basic article.
