I have my music under a folder on plex server and they are in order by artist but when I open Plex and music is no longer by artist but are listed by song > thanks
Do you not have the option to view by artist at the top? which Plex app are you using? can you take a screen shot of what you see
do not see the view option, this happens using android or Window
s 8.1 device’s and also looking directly at the server level. The source has it correct but server does not.
I’m unclear what I am looking at there. can you take a screen shot rather than a photo.
plex will not read the file name for things just all thrown into one folder. If they do not have id3 tags they should be at minimum separated in folders by artists if not Artist then album
Plex will not display your media files according to how you have them sorted in a file manager. You might want to take a look at these articles for information on organizing your music files.
I used musicbrainz picard to organize the music and it put all files under the artist. Then Plex is pointed to the location. Will this not work?
plex is expecting preferably a folder called called music ( or whatever you want to call it) which you add as a folder when creating the library in that folder should be a folder for each artist in each artist folder should be a folder for each album then all the track files in the album folder it belongs to.
Many users do use Picard to organize their music, but your music does not seem to be organized, as every track is just in one big folder it seems. every track is #1 on your folder screenshot as far as i can see
In your image above you have something called “classic rewind” i’m not sure what that is or how plex is showing it because it is only a partial picture. so you may fine and maybe just looking at an uncommon view but i can’t tell
at one time you could download music from XM Radio, one of the stations was called Classic Rewind. so then you had all the music in the one folder for what ever time frame was set to record. I am still playing around with the problem. Question, when you first load Plex Server and default all settings how does the program know where to grab the music? thanks for your help

You create a music library and in the library setup you tell it the main folder where all your music is located. In my folder structure example image in the previous post that folder would be “musictest” ( the actual name of library can be anything you want )
What we are saying is that instead of having all of your music files just thrown into that folder. they should preferably each have their own artist/album folders as in my picture above. Plex will use this folder structure to figure out what files belong to which album and which artists. then gets album art descriptions and such from online sites like last.fm ( gracenote for premium libraries )
I think your ID3 tags are possibly not set correctly since each file seems to be tagged as track one of an album called Classic Rewind but I can’t really tell from your image
lets disregard all of my comment. I now loaded Plex on another computer and then look at Music I already have music showing up and I did not even do a setup yet so where are they being pulled from?
your server on the other computer. when you view the web app you can view the content from all your servers. you switch servers on the left side drop down. ( click on server name )
