I have one notebook PC on which I run Plex Server. When at home that PC is connected via USB to a box of 8TB HDD’s with my media library (mostly video files). My Plex media library is organised by genre into many folders.
When I travel I have a 4TB usb drive which contains all of the latest videos that I have acquired (I have that drive organised with the folder structure and use a sync app to update my primary media hub regularly). I have a second identical media hub at another location which I also update by this method.
I want to be able to create a second Plex media library that will only list the folders in my 4TB usb HBB. Is it possible to have two Plex Servers set up on one PC?
First make sure that Settings → Library → Empty trash automatically after every scan is disabled. This is crucial. With this disabled, Plex doesn’t mind if a media directory is temporarily not available.
Then make sure that the different media drives each get a consistent and unique drive letter when they are attached.
Create two Libraries in Plex, one pointing at the media directories on each drive letter. When a drive is not connected, the contents of that library will still appear in Plex, but they will show as unavailable.
When adding or removing shows from either library, scan just that library, and empty trash for just that library. Don’t empty the trash from a library if it isn’t connected.
