I’d like to have the Artists in the music metadata be treated as tags. That way I can have songs sung by Johnny Cash and June Carter show up under both names instead of having a third artist as “Johnny Cash and June Carter”. I think this would also help with compilation discs, movie soundtracks, classical music, etc. I realize the scraper is going to do things in a certain way by default, but I’d be fine with having this artist tag as an option the end user can turn on/off in the server settings.
There is an existing request that, if properly implemented, will make it unnecessary to treat Artists as tags. The Artist (TPE1) tag supports having multiple artists separated with a ‘/’, but Plex has never supported this.
Works for me. What’s the likelihood of the feature being implemented?
One of the Plex co-founders has said they are working on some “…awesome general scanning and metadata upgrades…”
I certainly hope that will meet my expectations, but if there’s one thing Plex people know how to do it’s overusing the word “awesome.” Also, given the glacial pace of their usability enhancements in the past, I’m not holding my breath.
