Music Library - Compilation/Various Artists albums all being associated with Spandau Ballet

Server Version#: 4.51.1
Over a long period of time I have added various compilation albums, previously the tracks have found their way to the relevant artist in my library.
All of a sudden though, I was unable to find newly added compilation tracks via the artist view. I ran a refresh of metadata and have now found All the albums stored below the artist Spandau Ballet. The tags on the mp3’s are correct (artist/album artist and song title are correct)
I don’t want to remove and re-create the library as I have big playlists based around the library which I do not want to loose.
Any ideas how I can get the music to sort to the correct artist please?

Yes, check the link that @OttoKerner gave.

Go to your Spandau Ballet artist in the Plex web client, click Edit, and you will likely find that the “Sort Artist” somehow got changed to “Various Artists”. As soon as that happens, Plex will throw all subsequent compilations under Spandau Ballet. Change this, and your troubles are over (for a while).

I ended up splitting all of my compilation folders down by artist, so went from;
(Music)/Compilations/(Album Name)/CD1/(Track)
to
(Music)/(Artist)/(Album Name)/CD1/(Track)
and this seems to have sorted things out.
Am a bit puzzled though why it was sorted via the first method OK, but then all of a sudden seemed to break.

In doing the above I basically broke my playlists too and had to rebuild them.
The database seems to have grown like four fold now which I don’t understand.

Is there any way of flushing non current DB entries to shrink the files?

It’s done automatically every night during the server maintenance. But you can trigger it manually under
Settings - Server - Manage - Troubleshooting

I do :slight_smile: By splitting the individual tracks out of compilations, you’ve created a new album for each track, and probably a ton of new (indexed) artists too. Each album and artist is one new DB record.
