Music library scan stops

Server Version#:1.25.9.5721-7000
Player Version#:Web Player

I am having the problem with the music library scan. It keeps stopping and not finishing the scan.
I keep restarting it for days and it looks like after 6h it stops and not moving forward.
Is that an issue that can be resolved with a premium subscription?
Or am I missing something else?

Thank you for your help.

Thats not a PlexPass feature. Can you post your logs?

How is your media organized?

I am not sure how to do that. Sorry, I am new to this world.
Where can I find these logs?

I put all music into the music folder which is on its own partition.
music/artist/album
mp3 & flac files with scans and images in individual album folder.
In total it is
70838 tracks
4334 albums
total size: 696,23 GB

Logs can be gathered via Plex Media Server Logs | Plex Support Given your adding 70k files it will take a long time to parse/scan them. What I would do is add them in 5-10,000 file chunks, let Plex index/process that and then add some more. I have somewhere around 132,000 files for my audio book library. I think it took Plex a week to completely ingest that many files.

I see, understood. I will try that.
i downloaded the logs… but the zip file has about 300 individual files???

I’ve been having similar problems with scanning of my Music Library for the last few weeks. I recently had the Album Artist on many albums changed erroneously and seemingly arbitrarily. Now I have the Music Library scan apparently never stopping but when I check the dashboard alerts the scan appears to have got “stuck” on a particular item within a couple of minutes of the scan starting.

Plex Server updates have been kept up to date but the problems only started recently. My music collections is quite large (~8.4k albums) but this is the first time I have encountered this problem since moving over from jR***r.

Anyone else having similar problems with Plex Music libraries? Any suggestions?

Is there a problem with the latest Plex Server updates? Or should I just abandon Plex for my Music Library and maybe abandon Plex completely for all my media?

Thanks.

dbirches answer fixed it for me.

I have added about 20 albums at a time. A little annoying but it worked.

Thanks for your response. I’ve been adding/moving albums onto my Plex Music library at about 100 at a time and it’s taken weeks. All went really smoothly until a week or so ago. I’d hate to have to repeat the whole process when the problem seems to be with the Plex software and might occur again after repeating all that work. Given some of the other problems I’ve had along the way, I’m beginning to believe Plex just isn’t up to the task. I only moved to Plex for audio because it seemed better suited to music play on Alexa devices.
Thanks again.

I have been in a similar situation… I just wanted all media on one platform that also works on mac and windows smooth with a synology nas. Now it runs smooth. The only issue I had so far was the music indexing. But even that runs smooth now.
Another thing I noticed was that some music indexed faster than other. I have a Mozart library of 160 CDs which took over a week to index.

What you can try is: Find out when the indexing is slowing down. e.g. for me it was my Mozart library. Stop Plex, cut out just that artist or folder, restart the indexing.

Good suggestion. It looked like the scan was getting stuck in my Karajan collection which is where it reached in the 2 minutes before it stopped. But before moving Herbert out, I decided to give Plex one last chance. I shut down all instances of Plex with Task Manager. Then I restarted Plex Server and began a music scan. Left the scan to run for 24 hours – most of the time the browser console was saying it had a problem or that the server was refusing a secure connection – then stopped and restarted Plex Server again. Lo and behold the scan had completed!
Not sure what changed but, at least it finally worked.
There have been too many flaky things going on with Plex Music. I think I may dump Plex. I’m just glad I didn’t buy a subscription, so I guess I got what I paid for!

Almost sounds like you may have a corrupt database.

strangely, i seem to run into this specifically with large Mozart releases (the heftier Philips box sets namely) but have no real answers why either.

Same here… Mozart is the one slowing it down. But it is indexing, just at a very slow speed. But it is continuing. I am not in a rush… so I let it index, and as long as it is doing so I am ok with it. I am not buying a subscription until the full thing is working.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if I have a corrupt database – the question is how to fix it without completely starting from scratch with no guarantee that I won’t be back in the same position after a mountain of effort.

I cannot blame Wolfgang. My initial problem looked like it was Herbert von Karajan’s issue. Maybe he recorded some Mozart – can’t remember :grinning: – but I was seeming to get stuck on Mahler mostly in large HvK DG compilations. Now I’m going to try adding some Cockney Rebel & Kinks complilations to see if it’s just classical music that Plex doesn’t like  .

My Rammstein Collection got sucked in within an heartbeat
The old guys are the problem makers… as always :face_with_peeking_eye:

Might want to just run a check. Repair a Corrupted Database | Plex Support

General observation that may be helpful: Sorry but plex is crap at digesting classical music entries, it just cant handle the complex titling and metadata. All other genres are no problem. What i did was to separate all my classical music into a separate folder. Once in a while, If I have no other operation going ill let the plex scan the classical folder but it is super resource intensive and slow.
