So while trying to scan I note that under activities it stops on an album, “X” after a bit of time. I thought this meant it was stuck on this album and have been removing them only to have it get stuck again. However, I noticed that the little orange circle always completes before the sticking happens and I asked, “How do I know it is not just doing another turn that I can’t see?” So I opened the console and verbose and indeed although it appears to be doing nothing and to be stuck on this album, the music scan is continuing. Slow but steady. So why does the indicator give the false sense that it is stuck and not doing anything? Could the indicator be changed so the name posted continues to change and the circle still shows motion or an hourglass or KPI style so one knows it is functioning? If I have missed something here please educate me. I suspect others are being fooled as well.
yeah, its not you.
the music is scanned in multiple phases and its not well expressed in the UI.
after the initial ‘scan’ plex continues to ‘match’ and download metadata. this is the continuing spinning you see, its not stuck on the last album, the status just doesn’t update past the last album that was scanned.
you can monitor the settings > alerts section and you should see various messages about matching/processing/downloading/updating metadata etc.
you can also watch the ‘console’ @ settings > console (far bottom left side of settings)
depending on how large your music library is, it can take multiple days to finish processing (which will block other movie/tv library updates).
