Music: Thumbsup/Thumbsdown

I often will hit “shuffle” on a specific band or genre within my music collection. However, there’s always those songs that I don’t want to hear so I skip them as soon as they come on. It’d be nice if there was a “Thumbsup/Thumbsdown” option similar to what is found on most music players. This would weight that song for future playback so if I hit “shuffle” on my Christmas Music folder next time, I don’t get hit with the songs I don’t want to hear (or at least don’t hear them as often).

There is a ‘star’ rating on every song you can use for that.

Does rating the song actually affect the rate it’s chosen? And when you’re playing on mobile etc, the star rating isn’t even accessible in the playback screen nor in the pull down shade (or whatever it’s called)

It can be. If you are playing an artist shuffled, one star-rated songs will be omitted automatically.
You can create yourself smart playlists which require a minimum amount of stars.

If it is not currently, it will be accessible soon (at least on Android, I don’t have an Apple pre-release to test, but I assume it will be there as well pretty soon.)

wouldn’t this require every one of my songs to have some sort of rating?

Not necessarily. Unrated songs are treated ‘neutral’ in the shuffled playback. So that should do exactly what you want.

In smart playlists, unfortunately yes, all your track would need to have a rating.

Yeah - was referring to smart playlists.

The starred rating is fine then for shuffled playback, but then provide no way to easily rate a song in the any of the interfaces that I’m currently using. Android app while playing music, and web browser playback. I shouldn’t have to dig into the app while the song is playing rate it. It should be like every other streaming music application where there is a simple +/- option to rate the song and if rated down, it should skip it and not play it in the future.

It will be pretty soon.

It is already there.

This.
An automatic playlist based on thumbs up or down. Just like all the other services.

Not in plex…

Have you ever heard of smart playlists?

Can’t believe that 5 years later, there is still no thumbs up/down feature. I have well over 10,000 songs. Systematically rating each of the songs would be a prodigious task to say the least… and then to expect each of the other users to have to do the same thing is just nutz. Would really be useful to have a simple +/- so that all our users can easily curate their own library as the songs are playing. Thumbs down a song and the song is elliminated and moves on to the next… thumbs up and the song is stored for future playback. Seems like a no brainer if Plex is really aimed towards having all the bells and whistles… not to mention the fact that just about every other music player on the planet has this exact capability built in already.

This. I was about to make my own feature request about this, disappointed it’s been talked about for half a decade, and it appears it isn’t something plex is looking at implementing.

A 5 star system for rating songs is archaic. Every other music library / application in the modern era has moved to/uses a like/thumbs up/heart system.

It’s such a shame as this is my only complaint about plex / plexamp.

Plexamp can be switched over to a Star/No Star/Don’t care schema. Which is basically thumbs up/thumbs down.

Damn, that was a quick response  Thanks

I take everything I just said back. I must have just completely missed this. Just changed the option and this is exactly what I’m looking for.

Thanks for your help Otto

Would love the ability to block artists that my wife loves. Thumbs down would be awsom.
