Which Version of ID3 Tags Does the PLEX Scanner inspect? Is it one or more of the following: ID3v1, ID3v2, ID3v2.2, ID3v2.3 or ID3v2.4?

The developer does not specify this, only that the tags are scanned:

Plex Music Scanner
This scanner recognizes content by inspecting the foldername as well as the filename. It’s important that music files be organized into a folder structure as described in the Media Preparation Guide. The scanner will also inspect ID3 tags embedded in .mp3 files, and metadata embedded in .m4a files.

For the record:

The only benefit I got out of having a PLEX pass was the robust user forums wherein there was always an active community of users willing to lend a helping hand. Beyond that, I personally found no value in buying a PLEX pass. Many of its so called “premium features” actually compounded issues that I was having, particularly when it came to Music libraries. Therefore, I cancelled/did not renew my PLEX pass.

Now, here I am, in the vaccum of the internet, alone with my thoughts and questions about PLEX, with no one to consult. In other words, very little to no support. That’s PLEX. In some ways, it’s the best thing, ever. In others, it’s truly pathetic.

I personally use ID3v2.3 which it supports fine. It should probably support 2.4 also otherwise there would be much whining on the forums about that right. It also supports ID3v1+2.3 (Both at same time). And it also supports ape tags in mp3s as well. Ape tags overrides ID3 tags (any version).

That’s what I have personally found out. Hope it helps.

I use the same with no issues.

Plex doesn’t support ID3V2.4, I tried it didn’t work for me.

Possible issue with .mp3 files and compilations in Plex related to ID3 tags. Anyone have any info? I’m using 2.4 and comps don’t work. M4A files DO work in comps with same tagging scheme.

I recommend you to use ID3v2.3 with UTF-16 character encoding.
