I just built a rasplex over the weekend to replace my old boxeebox which is starting to show it’s age. I do like the boxee remote though with the keyboard on the back as the main feature.
It seems to work except the center OK button does nothing and the air mouse keeps turning itself back on randomly. Is there a way to program the OK button to work or is there some setup step or file I need?
I did a search on this forum for “remote” and found people using some side loaded android app to map the keys, but I can’t seem to figure out how to make an .apk app run on my raspberry pi.
Does the rasplex have a repo of preconfigured remote files (.kl)? How would I map the OK button or disable the air mouse?
I have updatet my Raspberry Pi yesterday with the new PMP build but since then my OK button is not working anymore in PMP. I am using a MCE remote which works fine on the latest PMP buid on Windows10.
The only thing that has been changed is the PMP build.
How can i resolve this issue? I have tryed to place a custom keyboard.json and lirc.json in \192.168.x.x\Configfiles\inputmaps but that doesn’t seems to do the job (or doesn’t contains the right commands because i don’t have a clue what i was doing :)) ).

Create a keymap.xml file with your preferred inputs, search this section, loads of info. .apk and .kl files are not of any use for Rasplex, its base OS is Linux.

Any ideas?
Suggest you ask in the PMP section, Rasplex and PMP are totally different Plex clients for the RPi.
I’ve been reading about creating a keymap.xml file but what I can’t figure out is how do I map the keys or find out what code each key is on that remote? From what I’ve read there are about a dozen commonly used remotes for the rasPlex so wouldn’t it be beneficial to share keymap.xml files for some of these commonly used remotes or include them in the builds? Just a thought.
They are already there, you just need a keymap.xml which recaps your OK button, I.e. Just one entry. as I said there are quite a number of How To’s in this section just search for keymap.
This forum is huge and almost every one has you giving the same response to search the forums, so this hasn’t been helpful one bit and going through the hundreds and hundreds of posts when searching for keywords like “remote” “keymap” is a lot of time and effort. What I don’t understand is why you can’t simply link to the post or guide, or why isn’t there a section/sticky for remotes by model? seems these posts are all over the place. I just want to map a few keys. So far I’ve tried SSH -> running IRW (does nothing, pressing keys don’t register). I’ve also done a -tail on the main log file which does show the keys pressed (most of them, some don’t register) but it’s hard to catch because the file is constantly updating with info and scrolling quite fast to read.
I am hoping someone has mapped the MX3-M before and can help me out, the OK button works now while going through the menus but I can’t get it to work when I choose a video to play, I want it to start playback but it doesn’t. The 3 buttons above the OK button (Menu, Home, Back?) do not register any keypresses in the logs so I don’t even know if they can be mapped?
I’ll do some more searching, but I know I’ll just find more posts of people looking for answers and getting the same response as above.
Thanks for the post link, though it doesn’t look like it helped me out. I couldn’t find the remote I have in there, unless I missed something in which case my apologies?
Doing a quick search for remote on this forum as NedTheNerd suggested, you get “>1000 results” so simply replying to someone to do a search isn’t helpful when they already tried searching before posting. Considering the post you linked to isn’t even on the first 5 pages of results.
I’ve been trying to map the keys myself following a few other posts on here but the challenge is some of my buttons are not logging in the log and I am not sure why? I got the OK button to work for navigating around the menu but when I reach a movie or TV show and press OK it does nothing… I can’t figure out how to make it start playback.
The MX3-M doesn’t appear to be a popular remote, so far I’ve read it has issues with some buttons. I guess if this is the case I’ll have to research a bit more on what remote works best for my rasPlex. We love the rasPlex so far, just hate not having a remote that works.
Thanks for the help and link to the post. Any recommendations on a remote that works well for the rasplex?
You need to look a little more closely. The remotePi board gives you a power button as well as a full featured remote. If you order their remote you know it works but you can use a third party remote.
To bad that product does not support bluetooth like the remote the OP references. Looks to be all IR. The remote he used is VERY close (just has a new voice button) to the one I have used for years on my kodi pi’s. Never had any issues with kodi back in the day. Trying to be a plex convert but it not picking up the OK button on this remote is a big deal.
