My internet was down today, Plex on Xbox One would not run without internet, Why?

So Comcast was having issues all day and my internet was down, my internal network was fine. Tried to watch Plex on the Xbox and Plex said it required internet to run. My Xbox was not in offline mode it could correctly navigate my local network but it seems Plex requires internet to run on the Xbox version. Why is this? Why can’t I watch movies on my local network on my Xbox when the internet is down?

I looked into this while moving and waiting for internet service, I too, thought, just fire up the PMS, let’s start watching while waiting . Nope.

There’s a setting to allow this. This was the guide I followed. By the time I found this article I had internet service up and running. Best of luck.

Thanks for the info, Strange their is not a more straight forward option for this. I mean when internet is down you won;t have access to online streaming apps so Plex should come through as a saviour in those times.

It’s not noted in the article above, but you’ll probably also want to set your client to allow insecure connections on local network. That should be in the client settings.
