One crazy thing to try:
Delete this file, if you have it: ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Data/com.plexapp.system/DataItems/AgentServicePendingUpdates.xml
Restart PMS, and see if that helps.
Yes that has helped something ... I can see it's populating more of the movie years. Why would this affect something?
I'll let it finish and see how the covers go... is there a way to pick another cover if it brings up the wrong one (I noticed some before were in a different language, when all my movies are English).
We're tracking a bug, not sure why it occurs yet.
Ok thanks. The questions I have left are:
- There's now a handful of movies with the Year as -1 even though I have the year in the filename, like Alien (1977). If I do a fix incorrect match, it lets me select the right movie (funnily enough not populating the year in the search), but after selecting the right much still doesn't update the year, and doesn't find cover art (even though it's easy to find on moviecoversdb and imdb and such). What can I do in these situations?
- And how do I fix when the wrong cover is found?
It sounds like something is still odd. I created a file with that name "Alien (1977).mkv" and got a mismatch. If I fixed match and selected the correct movie, or else named it with the correct year (1979), I had much better results
If it's not the right movie, use Fix Incorrect Match. If it's the right movie with the wrong poster, then let me know about it.
I fixed them all EXCEPT Alien (1979) - yes I typo'd in the thread. But my filename is right, and still when I go to "fix incorrect match", afterwards it still insists on showing -1 in the Year in the detail view, and won't retrieve cover art.
I have two problems; one being movies with no cover art but that I could find on the net (not sure if it's possible to get those in though), and the other being the movie showing the wrong cover (ie: non english language, when english ones are available). I'll compile a list later in the day with the title/year, or whatever else you need.
Do you have any custom agents, scanners, anything? What's the order on your metadata agents?
I'm new so I have everything at the defaults, but still a different order than yours, the selected ones in order:
local media assets
wikipedia
movieposter
themovie
freebase
amazon
I'll change it to your order and try again. I also just moved the Alien folder, and back in, and it picked it up correctly this time. Almost finished!
Hi there,
First, I love this software. It was the deciding factor for me to move my media center from a pc to a Mac Mini.
I am now starting to fix the little problems after moving my media over.
Movies are in a folder named “Movies”.
TV Shows are in a folder named “TV Shows”.
Music is in a folder named “Music”.
My current problem is in the TV Show section.
The problem is that I cannot figure out why a tv show has been imported from episode 10 onward ignoring episodes 1 through 9?
The show in question is “8 Simple Rules” The path is …Movies\8 Simple Rules\Season 1… The same path is used for Season 2 & 3.
The names that were imported for the files were like this:
S1 Episode 1 - The Pilot.avi
Same structure for all 28 episodes. Episodes 1 through 9 are ignored and episodes 10 to 28 are imported. Episode 10 looks like this:
S1 Episode 10 - Give It Up.avi
I have changed the naming of episodes 1 to 9 to:
S1E1 - The Pilot.avi
Then I tried:
S01E01 - The Pilot.avi
and then to exactly how the plex guide states.
When looking in the scan log there is no mention of episodes 1 to 9. It starts right away at episode 10.
Plex has done this for all three seasons.
I am at a total loss.
Please help.
JT
Hi Elan!
For the most part the Plex 9 scanners are working perfectly for me. The one exception is a 100% reproducible case.
I own all three Lord of the Rings movies.
The bug is that for whatever reason, Plex 9 always thinks Return of the King is really The Two Towers. See log below.
I noticed someone earlier in this thread, around page 1 or 2 I believe had the same problem.
PS: You and your team are just doing outstanding work. I donated earlier this year to help do my part. We all appreciate the great work. Let me know if there’s anything else I can provide to help narrow down this bug.

Hi, I am very new to Plex and I ran into a weird problem. The topmost ‘Movies’ and ‘TvShows’ menus disappears. I checked to see if they were enabled in Preferences->Skin->Home and the option to show them wasn’t even there. Is there anything (preferably simple) that I can do to fix this? It has happened before, but I believe it fixed itself when I restarted my mac. Plex Media Manager shows all the movies and tv shows just fine.
TIA.
Hi Wooky, welcome to the forums!
Plex for Mac should display whatever library sections exist in your Plex Media Manager. If you're not seeing them, that's usually indicative of a networking issue. If you restart Plex for Mac and don't see them, please upload ~/Library/Logs/Plex.log
Thanks!
Here it is. There is a bunch of errors and warnings. Curiously, it was running smoothly just a few hours ago. Weird.

Please try enabling Debug Logging in Plex’s Advanced Settings:
http://img.skitch.com/20100927-6kxwhnym92ftrqj8x7sti92h9.jpg
And then post a log of a Plex start, as there's not enough in the above log to tell what it's doing.
Are you positive Plex Media Server is running (icon in the menubar) ?
Yes, Plex Media Server has always been running. Version 0.9.0.21-ea4394c if it helps. I just restarted the mac and the menus magically came back, again. Is there anything I can post to help identify the bug now, or should I wait until it manifests itself again? BTW, thanks for being so helpful.
Wow, wait. It got weirder. I left Plex open in another space, and came at the browser window to reply to the topic. The only thing I did was to open the “About Plex Media Server” to get the version to post here. I soon as I posted, came back to the other space where Plex was and the menus vanished. Quit Plex, opened it again and they were there.
This to me screams networking issue, as it's networking/Bonjour that causes the menus to appear/disappear.
When the menus disappear, try pinging “YourServerName.local.” in Terminal.app from the client Plex machine.
Does it return the correct IP address?
Hi Guys
I thought I would just drop this one onto your list
Problems scanning Billy Connolly’s World Tour’s
The problem is they are separate Shows (Not seasons) but Plex is trying to make them into one below is my file structure.
TV/Billy Connolly’s World Tour of Scotland [1994]
TV/Billy Connolly’s World Tour of Scotland [1994]/Season 1
TV/Billy Connolly’s World Tour of England, Ireland and wales [2002]
TV/Billy Connolly’s World Tour of England, Ireland and wales [2002]/Season 1
TV/Billy Connolly’s World Tour of Australia [1996]
TV/Billy Connolly’s World Tour of Australia [1996]/Season 1
TV/Billy Connolly’s World Tour of New Zealand [2004]
TV/Billy Connolly’s World Tour of New Zealand [2004]/Season 1
TV/Billy Connolly’s World Tour of New Zealand [2004]/Season 1/Billy Connolly’s - World Tour of New Zealand - S01E01.avi
etc etc
I have have managed after some playing around to convince Plex these are separate but the auto scanner is failing to pick these up
My work around
1 - move files into different folder
2 - rescan in plex (removes incorect links)
3 - put files back into original places
4 - rescan in plex but as soon as shows appear in media manager (with gray icon) stop scan
5 - For each of the shows select “fix incorrect match” (for some reason I also have to hit the search twice for it to find anything other than the NZ season)
6 - Sit back and let the Plex magic take back over
Not a big issue as I’m sure there are not many TV shows like this but I thought I would just point it out.
Keep up all the amazing work
Yeah, it is a good movie ;)
I'm having problems with, though...
Here is what is happening, I think:
The filename is "Dr. Strangelove or- How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.m4v". When scanned, the filename is somehow cleaned and the title becomes "Dr Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" (i.e. the - and the : is removed). That title cannot be matched - a manual search returns no results. However, when searching manually for "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" (i.e. with the - and the : manually added), the exact match is returned.
What to do? It's is a minor thing to do the manual searching, but in the race to 100% perfection this is a road block... :)
Another question:
The Danish title of the Swedish movie “The Girl Who Played with Fire” is “Pigen Der Legede Med Ilden”.
A file named “The Girl Who Played with Fire (2007).m4v” is matched perfectly and automatically. A file named “Pigen Der Legede Med Ilden (2007).m4v” is not.
I understand that that is because of language issues.
However, to alleviate this problem I keep NFO files next to my movie files. This NFO file contain a element with the tt-id for the movie.
Is the tt-id in the NFO file supposed to be used instead of the filename of the movie? For me that is not working in the above and other examples. Right now it seems that the NFO tt-id is ignored and that only the filename is being used to match the movie…
?
