My Music/TV Shows/Movies Aren't Showing Up

Same issue here.... Not pulling any meta data for strangelove.....

File Name: Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) or Dr. Strangelove (1964)

Secondly I have my library sorted by SD or HD and then by Rating. In Plex 9 when only one movie is in a sub set (ie: DVD's/Rated NC 17/Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004)) and that is the only movie yet there, the entry is titled "Dvd'd Rated Nc 17". Is the only solution to add every rating folder individually or is there another setting that can fix this? The only fix presently is to open the entry in the media manager/fix Incorrect Match/and use the search feature to manually enter the title name.

For Dr. Strangelove the title is found yet the meta data is not retrieved.

Lastly... What is the maximum number of parts a multipart movie can have? I have a 7 part one that is not concatenating. It is broken into 3 separate entries.

BUMP

The scanner does pass along the tt ID if it finds it in the NFO file, for the agent to use.

OK, thanks :)

Is the supposed to include the full url or just the tt?

I.e.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549

or

tt0499549

?

It sounds like it's picking up the name from the folder inappropriately. Can you list out a few files with their full path so that I can understand how it's laid out?

I *think* the maximum is five, I just put it on the list to look at. Again, having your exact naming would help.

Either should work, *AFAIK* :)

And do you have any idea why it does not work in the example I gave? :)

Great! :)

We'd need EXACT file/directory name and the NFO file.

It didn't occur again. I turned on "Always On" mode in Preferences->System->Media Server, since I thought it could make a difference, and it seems to be doing the trick. I guess Elan is right and there is some network related bug (I don't think it is an issue with my network since I run everything in the same machine) when Media Server starts at the same time as the player. Perhaps under certain circumstances they get a different name for the machine, IDK.

Hi–I am brand new to Plex and to the forums. I have been searching the forums for this and posted a topic yesterday under general use–will delete–please forgive me if i posted in the wrong place. Some of my TV library is not scanning into Plex. After reading the reply to this post, here is my information on what is missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

*All my movies, regardless of extension (m4v or mp4) scanned in, as you stated.

*I do have TV shows and individual files missing and think i have isolated the problem (in my case) to .mp4 files.

**NO TV shows with .mp4 extensions transferred;

Attached is a screen shot of my itunes/TV Shows folder (is there a way to imbed an image in a post?)

I don’t THINK there is anything wrong with my files names–and each show, thanks to iTunes Media Organization, is filed by show name then by season.

This is what did and did not scan in: (almost all of these are files i converted via DVDFAB (just switched to Handbrake); the default used to be mp4 conversion but now appears to be m4v (version 8)

After importing/scanning into Plex–the Plex library shows all .m4v files; some examples from what is showing in screen shot:

Did not import any LOST (all episodes are .mp4);

Did NOT import ANY Mad Men (all episodes .mp4); (file names showing in screen shot)

DID Import Modern Family (all .m4v) ;

DID import SOME Nip Tuck (only imported .m4v’s–the 4 episodes that were .mp4 did not transfer);

I have installed Plex .9 and the new Hotfix for Media manager-311bc2a. I am on a new Mac Mini 2.4 GHz duo core. I have an extensive music and video library i use with iTunes stored on an external hard disk, arranged with iTunes Media Management. So when I set up Media library I pointed to the following–

TV shows: /Volumes/One Touch iTunes/My Music/iTunes/TV Shows

Movies:/Volumes/One Touch iTunes/My Music/iTunes/Movies

Any help would be appreciated!!! THank you!!!

Looking at your filenames, I'm not seeing any episode numbers:

http://idisk.me.com/efeingold/Public/Pictures/Skitch/ShannonScreenShot.tiff-20101002-102844.jpg

However, if the MP4s have metadata tags, it should grab the episode numbers from there. If they show up in itunes with episode numbers, is there any way you can upload one of the files for me to analyze?

If you're desperate to get them into Plex, renaming the files by adding - for example - "S01E01" or "1x01" would work too :)

Welcome to the forums, and to Plex!

I am also having problems getting the plex media manager to scan or see all of my files especially when adding tv shows. Is this problem because i am adding folders that have folders within e.g. adding the folder tv shows which has many folders inside of folders. (i have everything in folders according to show and season. I can also use finder right click on the file plex couldn’t find and tell it to open in plex and it plays. for some reason plex is randomly skipping over folders in my tv shows directory. I am using a mac mini and drobo fs all hardwired. the mac mini is plugged in via hdmi to my hdtv. If i haven’t been clear enough ask and i will try and clarify.

The key is to point Plex Media Manager that the top level directory which contains show, like:

<br />
TV Shows/<br />
      Lost/<br />
      24/<br />

It's much simpler if you simply list how your files are organized and then I can tell you what's potentially wrong :)

Hello,

I am having problems adding episodes from the TV Series UFO (ID 75133 on TVDB) as a TV Section in the media manager (0.9.0.21 - 311bc2a). None of the episodes are shown. The Media Scanner Log says:

Oct 03, 2010 09:42:39 [0xa0ab0500] DEBUG - Scanning UFO with 0 current items in the database…

Oct 03, 2010 09:42:39 [0xa0ab0500] DEBUG - * Scanning /Users/Shared/iTunes Media/TV Shows/UFO

Oct 03, 2010 09:42:39 [0xa0ab0500] DEBUG - * Scanning directory /Users/Shared/iTunes Media/TV Shows/UFO

Oct 03, 2010 09:42:39 [0xa0ab0500] DEBUG - * Taking directory ‘’ (277) out of the map (0 left)

Oct 03, 2010 09:42:39 [0xa0ab0500] DEBUG - Whacking 0 media items that were left.

Oct 03, 2010 09:42:39 [0xa0ab0500] DEBUG - Whacking 0 directories that were left.

Oct 03, 2010 09:42:39 [0xa0ab0500] DEBUG - Refreshing section 11 of type: 2

The episodes are arranged like this:

/Users/Shared/iTunes Media/TV Shows/UFO/UFO S01E22 The Responsibility Seat.m4v

/Users/Shared/iTunes Media/TV Shows/UFO/UFO S01E23 The Long Sleep.m4v

Any suggestions appreciated,

J

Edit: Found the solution after checking my other TV sections that worked: I hadn’t put them in a ‘Season’ folder. So /Users/Shared/iTunes Media/TV Shows/UFO/Season 1/UFO S01E22 The Responsibility Seat.m4v shows the episodes, but with an easily fixable incorrect match.

Apologies for the error,

J

I just reproduced this hierarchy, and UFO scanned in fine for me. Not that I needed to point the section at "/Users/Shared/iTunes Media/TV Shows" as the top-level folder. Season folders aren't needed.

Hi

it seems like some kind of caching is going on and not cleaned up. My “Downloads” directory is /Volumes/External HD/Downloads/TV Shows/.

At first it contained TV Shows, some placed within subdirectories, some without. Since only 2 TV Show episodes showed up (out of ~20) in the mediamanager and they were located within subdirectories, i decided to move them all out of the subdirectories, so now /Volumes/External HD/Downloads/TV Shows/ only contains files.

Since I’ve done that, i only get this in the logs for the directory:

Oct 04, 2010 10:43:57 [0xa0331500] DEBUG - * Scanning /Volumes/External HD/Downloads/TV Shows

Oct 04, 2010 10:43:57 [0xa0331500] DEBUG - * Scanning directory /Volumes/External HD/Downloads/TV Shows

Oct 04, 2010 10:43:57 [0xa0331500] DEBUG - * Taking directory ‘’ (1) out of the map (17 left)

“Taking directory ‘’ out of the map”, seems to me like it is seeking for some directory, which isn’t existing anymore - or something like that.

I’ve tried to restart the media manager, but it doesn’t make any difference.

The filenames are formated very differently - but i don’t think that’s the issue here, since none of them are showing up in the media manager or even looked at according to the logs…

Apologies if this is obvious, but after moving the files out, did the click on the refresh button to rescan? The "" directory is just the top-level, it's relative to the root.

However, the TV scanner needs at least show directories, like

TV Shows/24, TV Shows/30 Rock

If you have them all as flat files in TV Shows they will not scan with the current TV scanner.

Thank you for your reply!

Interesting--I used to name each file that during transcoding and only recently started naming them the actual episode name--saved me time on the back end in itunes where i was renaming the episodes.

However--So I DID originally name the files with S1E1 format but renamed in itunes...and when I rename files in itunes, the new itunes changes the file names in the directory.

I have an example that may help--
Nip Tuck--I converted this a couple of weeks ago--the first three episodes with dvdfab7 and the rest with dvdfab8 (wondering if the default changed as .mp4/.m4v was not an option that I ever used).
All were named episode numbers--not names. Then i renamed in itunes AND assigned episode numbers.
Here is a screen shot of the DIRECTORY where the files are located--you'll see the first three are .mp4, the others are all .m4v.
![ScreenShot Files.tiff|605x500](upload://5Uvc9p7uC37o1gmVyTjJXnKCJjD.tiff)
Here is a screen shot of the ITUNES directory
![ShannonItunesDir.tiff|677x500](upload://luNKfib0M4j7GQGmOJw0ghaocq7.tiff)
(btw-In the file directory they show up in alphabetical order; in itunes they properly show up in order of episode number)
Finally--here is a screen shot of plex--all but first three episodes made it.
![plex directory.tiff|690x399](upload://e84mo2mwAlnHyqR8DTjdgK1PQTy.tiff)

I would love to send you episode 3 (nanette babcock-.mp4) and episode 4 (sofia lopez--.m4v)) -- but the size limit is preventing me attaching the files. Is there another way i can send them to you?

And, yes--I can definitely do this--this is how i used to number things. But--i still wonder ...
if, of all my files, it was only the .mp4s that didn't make it, could that have something to do with the issue? Of all my converted video files, all .m4vs did import into plex--but, with one exception, all .mp4s did not.
Entourage S6--one episode imported--but seem to be the same as all the others--
Entourage S6 in the directory:
![Entourage Directory.tiff|666x483](upload://uconaw2Vi6sKPwbxUAFD0DaUaTi.tiff)
and in Plex
![Entourage in Plex.tiff|690x399](upload://e8QWOfshfNfI6XrzEzn94YyCEob.tiff)

BTW--A couple of other notes:

My LOST files did import properly--however, in Plex, Lost is showing up as the show "The Lost Room"--here is a shot of plex--the episodes are named properly but in the wrong series:
![Lost--Lost Room.tiff|690x399](upload://dKRdWoz3RcdZGzR9xixIIH4DGMI.tiff)
And Finally--my 24 Series Files--most were downloaded and are .m4vs--but when i try to play they are not playing.
Here is a shot within plex--i am getting an odd rectangular window at the top which has a lot of code and a time bar--but no video/sound is playing.
![24 in plex.tiff|690x399](upload://3FktjD6yQ5uet4VVQ25q1JXNfuz.tiff)
I'd be happy to send you anything you need--just let me know how!
Thank you again!!!

I suspect that an issue with us parsing MP4 tags is preventing those episodes from making it in. I would love to get my hands on one of those MP4 files, if possible can you upload one to dropbox? Many thanks!
