I’ve been using Plex on my Ubuntu 18.04 desktop for months now and it’s been great. I really appreciate all the work and all that jazz…but just recently (I can’t say exactly when because I don’t use Plex every day) it seems to have stopped working.
Needless to say, I’m not aware of any changes to my system or setup beyond normal system updates. I haven’t touched firewall settings or VPN or anything like that, and I’m not able to connect locally.
I am able to load the web interface at http://localhost:32400/web/index.html# but it says that ‘The Server ‘MyPcName’ Is Unavailable’
If I stop and start the server from the command line using:
sudo systemctl stop plexmediaserver.service
sudo systemctl start plexmediaserver.service
Everything seems to work as expected, but when I reload the website, I get the same error. Naturally, when I try to use any other device with Plex, it also says that it cannot connect to the server.
I tried to follow the instructions here (Plex Server does not get Found on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Server), but it didn’t help. Now it simply says:
“A server could not be found. Download and install Plex Media Server, and it will appear here.”
I also went through https://support.plex.tv/articles/204604227-why-can-t-the-plex-app-find-or-connect-to-my-plex-media-server/ but I’m having trouble identify the problem.
Can anyone help me? Also, if anyone could tell me what could have gone wrong…is there a known issue with an update or something? It just seems really odd that it would just so fail so completely. Is this a regular thing that happens from time to time?
