Since the implementation of podcasts on Plex I have gotten completely away from using other podcast managers and have been using Plex exclusively for my podcast. I have found that there is just one thing missing from the experience that I used to have with the other managers, besides local files to save on data usage. That thing that is missing is the ability to categorize / organize My Podcast subscriptions. Before Plex I had them organized into sections. Sections for Photography Podcasts, Talk Podcasts, News Podcasts, Music Podcasts. When I’d want to listen to a podcast the first thing I would think of is "what kind of podcast do I want to listen to, and then I would simply go to that section and press play… I’d allow it to simply play through all the most recent podcasts in said category and that would be the end of it. Now I have to decide which podcast specifically I want to listen to then painfully scroll through my list of all podcasts to find that specific podcast and once the first episode was over and I’d want to listen to another I have to manually go pick another. This is tedious and especially dangerous when driving.
I believe implementing this ability would greatly improve the experience. Please consider doing so as soon as possible.
I also would love this feature, but to note I would like a custom ability to do this. There are groupings built in, but for my use, I would generally group on context. For example ‘Driving podcasts’ or ‘Living room podcasts’.
This would make the UI so much more usable for me, and I would certainly use plex for my podcasts rather than my other tools (particularly on my tv) if this custom filtering feature was there.
I would love this, especially what retrodans suggested. I use this feature on the iOS podcast app. It lets me categorize and auto update the categories with the newest or some other form of filtering. Like a smart playlist for podcasts almost
This is the 1 big of 2 reasons I have yet to switch over to Plex for podcasts. I make a ‘Daily’ smart playlist in overcast app that I listen to on my drive every morning. I use it in conjunction with iOS shortcuts so it just plays when I ask Siri. Official iOS shortcuts support is the 2nd reason why I haven’t switched.
I agree current UI experience is dangerous when driving trying to play podcasts.
