My shows now record as .ts instead of .mkv

My shows used to all record as .mkv. Not sure when it happened but now they’re recording in .ts. They playback fine on my system, but I’d really like to use the .mkv container as I think it has a broader compatibility across devices.

I’ve gone into my DVR settings, made sure they’re at High (30fps limit) which is what it was before. I checked my device itself which I had set to mobile but now am on heavy (I don’t recall if heavy was the one that gave jittery 1080i video, I remember having to bump it down one level to get 720p without the jitters).

Anyway does anyone have anything to add? I’m sure I’ve forgotten some setting somewhere that needed to be reset after some update but for the life of me I’m unable to get .mkv back. Thanks.

Honestly, TS is better in my opinion, that way it is straight MPEG, and a lot of apps exist to help remove commercials from MPEG files, but not from MKV. Originally everything was TS, then they moved to MKV, and then back to TS, it added an extra step to convert the video back to straight mpeg before I could manipulate it.

Please don’t change back to MKV.

Yes, this was in the version 1.7.6 update as noted here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/62832/plex-media-server#latest
It is also talked about in this sub forum.

You are not missing a setting anywhere, that is how it is for now. It may change in the future but Plex does not give details about product development.

I’m with JB. Running 1.8.0.4109 and now recordings won’t remux to the mkv container. Why??

I do some post processing which transcodes into mkv because I like the majority of my library in mkv. Now post processing is complaining because the original file is .ts and the result is .mkv. I don’t have the log in front of me, but the post processing error said something about my “silly script” because it deleted the original .ts.

That is not an error. Plex expects to find to original ts file placed back in the grab folder after post processing is complete. If you are converting the file obviously it won’t find the ts file. My post processing has not skipped a beat through all the changes Plex has made to out file. Post Processing script handled original ts file, when Plex changed to outputting mkv no changes were made to script it just kept working, after switch back to ts the script kept continuing to run with no issues.

Ah thank you. So I haven’t lost my mind. That’s fine, I can live with .ts though I do like to keep everything in one format if possible but since Plex plays it I’ll be okay with it.
