NAS or do i need a Server build (multiple FullHD, HEVC streams)

Hello!

I’m running my Plex Media Server currently on my desktop pc! (amd ryzen 7 2700x, GTX 1070, ~8TB HDD Sata)

I’m sharing my libary with my friends and family and i dont wanna run my desktop all day long (considering i’m at work 10 hours a day!) and i had to pay 300€ additional for the power company last year! … yes, the computer was running pretty much 24/7 except for a few days!) So my plan was to get a big NAS (Synology DS1019+ looks pretty interesting!) so my server is online all the time and the power-bill will not be as high as last year! But since there are always 2 or 3 people watching (all content is pretty much 1080p, HEVC, 2-4 MBit/s, AAC) i thought i should look out for a Server Built that is powerful enough to stream 10-15 1080p videos simultaneously)! What would you recommand for a 24/7 use with 10-15 people simultaneously watching! Price Budget is between 500-1500€ (or even 2000€ if the hardware is right but it needs to be a monster for that kind of money!

I never build a Server or Computer, so thats why i’m scared haha (but i installed 2 hdd drives into my tower yesterday, so with a good tutorial i should have no problem with a server built!
and 30% of my people are direct streaming the content, so no transcoding! but for most of my friends it needs to transcode before! … if that is important?!]

thanks for your answer! i dont wanna stay on my pc for too long because my ‘desktop work-horse’ is running 24/7 cause of plex…

the qnap nas i7 ( TVS-882ST3-i7-16G) doesnt look that bad but ~ 3000€ is a bit much… i would say 2000€ is my limit!

I think a server build will be better in my case! i found this Build-Guide… Ultimate p2000/Ryzen Powered Micro-Unraid server build guide!

seems pretty powerful, and much cheaper [~1800$ without hard-drives]

ok thank you again  sorry for the noob question, couldnt find a quick answer but what is the advantage of unRAID compared to a windows based server?

Unraid has great support and setting up Plex there is easy as 123.
