Native Plex Clients Show Server Offline While Plex Web and Remote Playback Work

Plex Clients Show Server Offline Despite Server Being Reachable and Functional

I’m experiencing a very unusual issue after migrating from an old Plex server on a MacBook to a new Plex server on a Mac Mini.

Environment

  • Plex Media Server running on a Mac Mini

  • Fresh macOS installation

  • Fresh Plex Media Server installation

  • Fresh server identity (new server name and setup)

  • Spectrum Internet

  • Manual port forwarding configured for TCP 32400

  • Public IP verified

Current Symptoms

Native Plex clients show the server as offline:

  • Android Plex app

  • Android TV Plex app

  • Roku Plex app

The clients display the correct server name and owner account, but:

  • No libraries appear

  • Tapping the server does nothing

  • No error message is shown

What Works

The server itself appears to be functioning correctly:

  • Plex Web on the Mac Mini works normally

  • Libraries are visible

  • Playback works

  • Accessing Plex directly via:

  • Phone browser can access Plex locally

  • Phone browser can access Plex remotely over cellular

  • Playback works remotely over cellular

  • https://app.plex.tv/desktop works correctly

  • Playback through app.plex.tv works correctly

  • A brand-new MacBook that has never previously connected to my Plex account can see the server, browse libraries, and play content successfully

Network Verification Performed

  • Public IP verified

  • Router WAN IP matches public IP

  • No double NAT detected

  • Manual TCP port forward configured to Plex server

  • CanYouSeeMe successfully connects to port 32400

  • Plex is listening on port 32400

  • Remote browser playback functions correctly

Troubleshooting Already Performed

  • Fresh macOS installation

  • Fresh Plex Media Server installation

  • New server name

  • New server identity

  • Reinstallation of Plex clients

  • Clearing app cache and storage on Android

  • Signing out and back into Plex

  • Verified same Plex account is being used everywhere

  • No managed users or Plex Home users involved

  • Verified clients are seeing the new server name, not the old server name

Additional Observation

The old Android phone, Android TV, and Roku clients previously worked correctly with the original MacBook Plex server.

After migrating to the new Mac Mini server:

  • Existing clients show the new server name but report it offline

  • New MacBook client works immediately without issue

This makes me suspect there may be a stale server association, machine identifier issue, or client-side server record problem occurring somewhere between Plex clients and Plex account services.

Is there any way to force Plex to regenerate or clear server resource records associated with a machine identifier or previously connected clients?

Any guidance on logs to collect or additional server-side diagnostics would be appreciated.

I created a completely new Plex account and shared the library to it. The shared library appears and works correctly in Plex Web (app.plex.tv) but does not appear at all in the Android Plex app. This occurs with both my original account and a brand-new account.

I also got it to work on a TCL Android TV by changing the Allow Insecure Connections to “Always” and then switching it back to “Never.”

Here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms
(be careful to only remove the old server token)

On existing clients, it can help to sign them out of the plex account and back in. If you have a Plex Home with managed accounts, it can be sufficient to instead perform Switch User back and forth.
This will force the client to contact plex.tv and refresh its access tokens and the server list etc.
