Hi,
It would be nice if PLEX didn’t throw away perfectly good information when the agents add files to PLEX libraries. I for one (and I believe MANY other PLEX users as well) go to great lengths to name my files to match the PLEX naming convention, but additionally, also provide descriptive information after the “-” that could be used as the “Title”
of a video. This is especially true of non-mainstream video files (e.g. Great Courses classes).
As an example, I have a course “Joy Of Mediterranean Cooking”. When the course is added to my PLEX library (set up as a “TV Shows” library), it sets the “Title” for each episode as “Episode x”, where x is the episode number.
With the file
“Joy Of Mediterranean Cooking - S01E07 - A Spanish Tradition - Tapas And Sherry.mkv”,
the episode title is set as “Episode 7”. The scanner/agent could VERY EASILY, as an option, pull off the descriptive information “A Spanish Tradition - Tapas And Sherry” and set the episode title to that.
There has been much written about Great Couses specfically, about using custom agents and NFO files, etc. But what I’m talking about is a more generic “option” (not just for Great Courses) to use the descriptive information as the “Title”, only if the title ends up blank or as a generic episode number during normal scanning. I really only care about the title in this case, not other metadata about the episode from an NFO file, etc. that could be provided with a custom agent.
I just finished setting up my PLEX server for a third time. My original server died, my second server became outdated (small and slow). Each time, it has been tedious setting up the “Great Courses” library. I currently have 42 courses with a total of 971 episodes/lectures where I’ve had to manually set the title for each of the 971
episodes (now for the third time). WHAT A PAIN. The information for the title is available to PLEX, but it won’t use it!
Please add an option to use the descriptive filename information for title purposes.
It would be like 2-3 lines of code in the agent (plus setting up the “option”).
Thanks.
