Need help from expert Plex users

I currently run Plex on a server on TrueNas 12.0, everything works great, except this; I have a library media called “Music Videos”, when I access and go to the library and select shuffle, some videos don’t play or skip, and I see the progress and shows almost done. I mean it never reset to the beginning.

How can I force Plex to not save watch progress on each video, so next time I want to watch, automatically plays everything from the beginning even if I skip to the next one half way thru the previous time.

Thank you

Hi - from the web interface, go to edit your Music Videos Library… Go to Manage Library > Edit > Advanced, and then uncheck “Store track progress”

I think this option only shows depending on the media type you selected for the library.

I followed your instructions, but I don’t have that option… see screenshots below

I found the setting, is under the “MUSIC” library type only, I actually choose “VIDEO” library type to create it and place all my music videos. for the music I do have it uncheck. but the video does not give that option. -

Right, so as I mentioned, i think this only shows for certain media types, which is weird. I thought at one point there was a global setting for this. Maybe it is related to the Continue watching section under Settings > Library try dropping those values to 0

If that doesn’t work I would try then creating a new library using a different media type, like Music. But I honestly don’t know if a music library would detect video files. If that’s a no go - perhaps you could submit a feature request. It makes sense.

Yeah the Playlist feature may be a good work around. Good find.

never mind the playlist also does it

I just try it again… it also keeps the tracks at where you skipped . the last time

nope, that library setting also didn’t do that, what it does it does not show on HOME the progress of any movies, etc as continue watching, but once you go to the actual library they all show the current progress on a yellow bar under the image.

I tried my Music library idea and that didn’t detect any videos. I think we might be stuck here. :frowning:

It is a good feature request - especially since the capability exists already - they should hopefully be able to apply that code to other libraries with different media types. Although a Music Video type in itself would be cool. As a former DJ with a bunch of that, it would probably help me too, although I never considered using Plex for that stuff. Good luck!

Thank you for you help, I hope the Devs here at Plex see this.

I may have another solution - but you should really submit a feature request for this. Peering through the forums for my own issues, I see a lot of posts.

My idea relates around the watch status. I don’t know how you have these organized, but you can do a bulk status change from the web interface. change the status to unwatched or watched and then that should reset the saved position, etc. You could remember to do this before or after you are playing files from that library.

Of if you are crafty and can code - you could script this action using the API and schedule it. This link isn’t that… but would get you started… https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/4wmuh1/sync_watched_status_between_servers_including/

done, I requested, maybe you can chime your ideas too, and see if they take on.

thank you
