So lately i noticed the X files pausing after 10-20 seconds of play on my chromecast, i also noticed on the dashboard and tautulli that the stream in question is showing direct stream when task manager shows it was transcoding.
Any help would be appreciated.
The media plays properly on firefox and windows player.
Edit, if i lower the quality on the chromecast(from play highest/original), it will play correctly, but the stream details still show direct play.
Do you have a value set under ‘Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than…’ ? (Under Settings / Network (with show advanced enabled))
I had 30 set there, removed it (which changed to 0).
Prior to changing that I could play the same file repeatedly and it would pause within 30 seconds - with it set to 0 I have played the same file at least 20 times and it hasn’t paused.
It’s not just H265, it’s all media. I observed similar issues while using “Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than” set initially at “30”.
Notes indicate value is in minutes but it appears to be bugged in recent server builds and is being interpreted as 30 seconds.
Took me a while to get a good error message to appear since symptoms were just buffering hangs after 30 seconds.
While in this state, I disconnected my cast and resumed playback on my android device. That’s when I finally saw the paused longer than, server disconnected message.
Until the bug is resolved, I too had to clear this value.
Yep clearing this value made the Chromecast playable, but the dashboard still showed direct play and also if I shutdown the tv/stream the Plex server still transcoded the full episode as observed via task manager.
