Need suggestion on new NAS for Plex Media Server

Hello,

I am looking for advice on a new NAS for my PLEX MEDIA SERVER (PMS).

I broadly have 3 areas where I am looking for help…

Area 1

I am trying to choose between
a) SYNOLOGY 718+
b) QNAP 251+
c) QNAP 253B

Any suggestions which among these 3 would be the best?

Area 2

I am planning to upgrade the RAM to the max possible - 6GB for the SYNOLOGY one and 8GB for the QNAP ones. Is that beneficial to do?

Area 3

I am also planning to take a 7200rpm HDD (like the Ironwolf Pro) rather than a 5400rpm one. Has anyone seen tangible benefit in this?

Saw a post where @ChuckPa helped another member to set up the PMS + database on an SSD in the NAS.

If I want to do that right from the first day, what should I buy and how to configure the NAS?

depending on budget and your technical ability Id suggest you look into building your own NAS and use something like FreeNAS or UnRaid as the OS which is *nix like.

This way you can upgrade memory and CPU beyond what those devices might support and in the future as technology evolves you can upgrade your system to newer technology.
