Need to Backup 100% of Files

I need to backup my entire library, so I can transfer it over to my new system. I’ve tried copying over the Media and Metadata folders, but my library directories are not included. This has tons of important custom tags and info I have set up.

What else do I need to bring over from my old system where I can just restore everything exactly as it is on my new system so it’s 1:1 copy (without having to reconfigure everything)?

Windows to Windows migration?

Besides your media files, you need to move the Plex Data Folder to the new system.

There are some additional steps, such as disabling emptying of trash, before the move. These are important if your media files will be in a different location on the new system.

  • In the case of Windows, don’t forget the registry branch.
  • Copy the whole Plex data folder (while Plex server is not running on either the source or the target machine!)
  • Restore all the media files into exactly the same “place” as they were on the old machine (drive letter, folder [structure], file names)

If you are switching machines due to a hardware issue, which prohibited the clean shutdown of Plex you may have to switch to one of the backup databases after copying everything over. https://support.plex.tv/articles/202485658-restore-a-database-backed-up-via-scheduled-tasks/
