Needs SSL support - when is it coming? is it coming?

All of my servers are set to require SSL so any client that doesn’t support it yet needs to be updated. Updates have so far been extremely slow to support SSL and often other updates come through but not SSL. Xbox 360, One, PS3, PS4 all still need SSL support to be usable.

What is the ETA on this? Is it even being worked on?

+1

Couple of my friends changed for Secured only and now we can’t share content anymore :frowning:
It’d be very sweet to get some feedback on this.

Update please? I don’t think it’s too much to ask if this will ever see the light of day. Basically the only option at this point are Android TVs which I have a couple of but plenty of folks don’t.

The TV and game consoles have been an incredible pain to support SSL. We’ve run into issues ranging from missing root certificates, massive device slow downs, and icons rendering out of whack (seriously, wtf?).

The PS4 will receive SSL in a soon update. I separated it from today’s major release so we can roll back the security change if PS4s catch fire.

The PS3 will not receive SSL in the same update. A SSL connected PS3’s network requests take twice (or more!) as long as a none SSL connected PS3. Loading grids of artwork takes seconds. Transitioning screens takes seconds too. Eventually the PS3’s network layer has such a bottleneck of pending requests that it starts to die.

So, yeah, we’ve worked hard on it but in the end we can only take a feature as far as the device is willing to go.

Roku 3 already supports SSL if you’re looking for options.

A response I would have expected. Thanks.

Matt,
Great, detailed response. We know you work hard but sometimes hard to see while we wait for releases

It is a real shame that Sony have been unable to give the PS3 a decent network stack capable of dealing with SSL in a sensible or reasonable way but good to know you tried.

Thank you
