I’m still, or rather WAS using my PlayStation 3 to stream from my servers, but today I got the message:
Sorry, there seems to be a problem connecting. Please try again later
Now this is at the beginning, when I start the player, so I suspect it’s Plex that are having some issues. (just because we always connect there first)
then I stumbled upon this: https://status.plex.tv/incidents/7t42lnn5fzr5
I suspect this is the issue, since ps3 are having problems with newer certification issuers…
Have “Plex” killed the PlayStation 3 now?

I can confirm I have the same issue. It worked fine on Wednesday but starting last night I can’t even access the PS3 app. This is really bad as the ps3 is my main method of watching
It seems like Plex are using “let’s encrypt”, the free certification issuer, and that’s might be the reason it’s not working.
So to save a couple of bucks, we ps3 user got booted…
… That’s why I don’t like to be depended on 3rd party stuff like Plex, it would be much easier if it was an standalone server…
it’s not the same to have to watch on my phone instead of ps3,
+1 on this issue and at least I know why it’s stopped working. But as the thread asks, is this going to be resolved or is this an unoffical way of killing support?
I tried it again today and it’s now working. Seems like it was fixed, I hope the issue doesn’t resurface though.
Great, I haven’t tested it yet!
The issue has returned. Same message as last time.
Just came on to see as I have the problem right now as well. Worked fine last night.
Please keep PS3 supported. I really don;t want to have to buy a roku or something for the TV I have my PS3 slim on. Space is at a minimum.
Also, does anyone know if an older version of plex would work? I save the update files so I could roll back in theory.
@BigWheel Yet it worked until yesterday… So this means it’s dead forever? We figured there wouldn’t be continuing updates, but it won’t even playback anymore? Why?

Also, @Moussa mentioned previously that the PS3 would continue to function if the PS3 store closed. Has this changed? Was there an announcement we all missed if so?

Pretty sure he meant the app would not be uninstalled from device because the store is not there as it does not require the store to run.
Old certificates that your server had from Digicert might have recently expired for you and that may be why but we are not going back to Digicert
Any idea if we can redownload then? I’ve never seen anything from Qnap about old certificates? It’s my first time encountering this. I’m not an expert on this, I bought a plex pass because it simply worked and I didn’t have to figure out how to program stuff.
And the phrasing of his post is that the app should function as normal. It appears normal on my plex dashboard as a connected device, but won’t connect.
I’m sure you can understand how upsetting this is to have pulled out from under you.
re download what? Certificates have nothing to do with QNAP specifically. You can try disabling secure connections on your server I suppose. But if you use it remotely at all I probably would not.
I’m sorry, I don’t know what certificates are, I’m not trying to be combative. I’m hoping that the PS3 will continue to be able to use the plex app.
I tried turning the secure connection off before I read your post and it won’t connect. So it’s officially dead then? It won’t be coming back and we have to source new players for plex? It’s a big deal for some of us, I have this hooked up to a seniors setup and it’s confusing enough without adding an additional tech to them to deal with. the PS3 was the perfect solution in this case, one device with plex and a dvd/cd player.
Certificates are like a passcode devices use to talk to each other in an encrypted manner. Your banks servers that run their website uses encryption to pass data between it and your web browser for example. As technology changes and encryption protocols become more secure, older devices will not always be able to support new encryption technology. That is why I mentioned you can try disabling secure connections on your server if this has anything to do with certificates.
Thank you for explaining the certificates to me.
The work around that seems to work is turning on the DLNA server on plex and going through it that way on the PS3, skipping the app completely. It will play MKV files that the PS3 doesn’t support. It seems limited in that you can’t select external subtitle tracks (named in the plex convention anyways) but video will play.
I really hope there is a proper solution to this and it’s only temporary like what was posted above 13 days ago.
So now that I tried changing networks security from preferred to none, and back to preferred, I can barely connect to plex at all, with a “Intermittent” connection that wont work right on my cellphone or PS4. I don’t think I’ve ever been quite as frustrated with this product than I have been tonight. Hoping I can figure it out tomorrow… Can’t even get to always properly launch into the chrome browser from the qnap consistantly.
I am not sure what you mean launch from qnap, but you should be able to access PMS via either Plex Web or via the internal ip directly @ http://192.168.1.xxx:32400/web/ (whatever your pms ip is)
save it as a browser bookmark/favorite, and you can do directly there any time with any browser.
