Netflix et al. outside U.S. using VPN?

Hi All!

I have recently started to dig into the Plex universe, and I really love the look and feel of it. However, as an expat, it is really hard to get streaming services to work.

I use a Logitech Revue running Google TV to access the content served from my Plex Server running on a Windows 7 machine.

Here's the problem I ran into: When connect to the US based VPN server on my Windows machine to gain access to Netflix and other streaming services, the connection between my Plex server and client is lost. After all, my Windows machine no longer appears to be on the home network as all its traffic is encrypted and tunneled through an off-site VPN server.

Now here's my question, is this an inherently unfixable problem? Or can I work around it by tinkering with some settings?

Thanks guys!

enable split tunneling in whatever VPN client it is you are running.

Thanks Trudge!

That seems to have done the trick!

Have you managed to connect to US streaming services reliably. If yes, which VPN client do you use?

Also, am I correct in assuming that as long as the Plex server is connected over VPN, my GTV box is not required to be connected to the US-based VPN server to play geographically restricted content?

I don't use one.

I believe so yes. (I know it used to be the case)

Thanks again! I'll give it a whirl then.

I really like the simplicity of. (Mind you it costs you)

I had quite the time getting the VPN working. And had stability issues, as well as taking a hit in bandwidth. I still use a VPN but only to obfuscate my IP (and for work),,,

All the service does is manipulate your DNS, so changing the ips on primary router made it work on every media device in my house. (Apple TV, Roku 2/3 etc)

Hi, I am just using http://www.watchingtvabroad.com
I use it on my MAC, iPad and iPhone under the same account. For Windows they have custom application as well. I can easily watch any of the US TV channels from anywhere
