netgear nighthawk x10 lagging when loading dashboard or TV, Movies etc..

recently bought a netgear nighthawk x10 as my new router bonus has a plex media server.
I have plex servers running on 2 different window PC’s and for the most part it work great.
I connected an external USB 3.0 hard drive to the router itself and started to setup plex
to see my media.

Once the x10 was done indexing I expected it to load quickly which was not the case.
On my windows pc’s dashboard interface loads quickly on plexweb, apple tv’s, iphone, ipad, android etc …
On my x10 the dashboard loads very slowly on all the above and sometimes errors out.
Now I would say it might be the hard drive but both PC’s are setup to access the routers hard drive to pull content.

Funny thing is once it loads the play back is super fast, and I have noticed all my content from the other window PC’s
now loads super fast which is the router working it’s magic.

Why do I need 3 plex servers? The hope was to bring all content to the x10 and ditch the pc’s completely. I have everything transcoded to play nice with the x10 plex server so transcoding is not a issue.

At a loss as to why the x10 has a lag of about 10 to 20 seconds to load the interface for me to select my content. Can someone help??

From my experience, Nighthawk X10 is kinda picky when it comes to USB drives/sticks. Right now I’m using Sandisk and dashboard loads almost instantly.

really, interesting. Guess I will find out later this week as I have a WD 16TB my book duo usb 3.0 unit. It has WD Red NAS drives inside so the dashboard should load quickly.

You can use one relatively small drive for Plex library/settings/etc and different one for storing your collection or map map network drive.

Kinda new to the whole plex running on anything but a pc, how would one get dashboard settings onto a USB 3.0 jump drive?? I already installed the pms on the my book that caused the lag that is happening. I want to set it up like you. Small jump drive holding Only pms program and Data etc… while connnecting a 8tb USB 3.0 on the other USB port of the router. That why everything will work fast.

Also thank you for all the help so far.

You should have folder called Library\Application Support\ on the drive connected directly to your Nighthawk.
Copy everything including “Library” to new drive. Connect new drive to Nighthawk in Options->Plex Media Server you will find under “USB Device for Plex Data Directory” choose your new drive. Plex should start.
