So I was happily picking parts and price hunting for a PC that will be next to my TV so that I can play games and be like a central hub for all my other devices.
But then comes along this X10 router that “apparently” is better than having the PC option.
Just want some thoughts from the community on what they think about this new router; or switching on the PC to access your Plex Server is too much of a hassle these days?
$500 buys a fairly decent piece of storage and you still have money left over for a nice router (3 concurrent streams of 58 Mbps 4K UHD for example)
Guess it comes down to whether you have gigabit coming into your home or not and have a bazillion TV’s/tablets all on at once. I don’t… too many cows nearby to interfere with the signal
Spend less on a better router and put the money difference towards a dedicated computer that will have better hardware and actually be supported longer than 6 months after release.

Games running on a Router!!! Give me a break…
Get a good router (Not a combo modem/router)
A decent little PC (I7, 8gig ram, 256 SSD, Windows. I use a Laptop) and all the HHDs you need for your library.
Dedicate this to Plex ONLY!
You will not be disappointed!!!
Agreed. I’m running the Nighthawk X8 and Arris SB6190. Couldn’t happier with my equipment. The combo modem/router supplied by provider just couldn’t handle all of our devices. Plus the X8 WiFi signal strength is insane in comparison to supplied equipment.
You’re paying extra to be the first with 802.11ad support. I don’t think anything else out there (home grade) can do AD speeds yet so you’re paying extra for nothing right now.
Just like when a new USB stick with massive size comes out. Wait a year or two and that same size stick will be a lot cheaper.
