I went out on a limb and bought the super expensive Nighthawk X10 to run my plex server… Feels like the biggest mistake I’ve ever made. The server is SO MUCH SLOWER. The menu screens take forever to load, the metadata takes forever to load, the movies take forever to buffer… Nothing really direct plays anymore, Vizio TVs no longer work AT ALL with Plex… I used to run my plex server through my Mac and never had any issues, but I don’t like the idea of leaving it on all the time. Can someone please tell me what the deal is with this router and what I can do to make it work better?
Its a router lol… what did you expect?
I would return that router and buy the below listed items for about $325 plus tax. Install Ubuntu Desktop/Server 18.04.2 on it and have a PMS server with full HW transcoding support.
Inte NUC7PJYH
Crucial 2x4GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM
Samsung 860 EVO 500GB
That could of been the one i got to… Can’t remember. What I do remember is the pure satisfaction of smashing it with a hammer! Oh, it was great! Best $150-$200 iv’e spent in a long time.
The Nighthawk X10 is $374 on Amazon so probably not the same model as what you had an experience with. My recommendation is less expensive and will provide a superior PMS experience.
OMG! Definitely not the same… Mine was the X8 series. Total crap.
Thanks for your helpful response.
