Please make Network tag editable and please show Network instead of Studio on TV detail screen.
There is a heavy American bias when it comes to network details on metadata sites. Since I, and all my family, live in Canada I would like to be able to enter the correct network information for the people that use my server.
If Studio/Network are going to be separate, please display the Network on details screens. No one cares what Studio made a TV show, people want the info on whatever network or streaming service it aired on.
Favoring heavy Americans seems like an oddly-specific bias…
I agree that the studio/network information shown could be better. As a not-so-heavy-American, I’d much prefer to see the airing network shown (SyFy) for Battlestar Galactica. Or, at the very least, NBC Universal shown as the studio…
I don’t have any objection to Network, but things are aired by different networks in different parts of the world. It doesn’t seem like useful (or accurate & available) information to me personally.
Very few people know what studio a TV show is produced by, outside of Marvel. It is useless as a point of reference for people who aren’t Plex admins (ie. family members or friends who don’t know what’s on Plex). TV network is extremely informative for people watching because it lets someone know what network the show aired. So if someone is looking for that show they remember from NBC or the show they heard about that’s on Hulu, those are reference points.
The fact that shows air on different networks is exactly why it would be beneficial for the field to be user editable. Thats a difference that exists at a macro level, but for people using the same Plex server it’s more than likely those people all remember the show from that network.
Studio should remain studio, but it should come secondary to network on TV detail screens and the metadata field should be editable in the editor.
I think Studio is way more interesting! It’s much more likely to tell me something about a production than the Network. Especially in these days of streamed-by-everyone, everywhere.
I’m not against the request for Network. If it exists it should be both editable and visible.
If my family is looking for the show being talked about on Hulu or AMC, network helps navigate. Please explain what Studio tells someone outside of things like Marvel Studios. For regular shows all it does is show what company produced the show. For regular people, that isn’t useful info when browsing a media library. It might be fun trivia.
Also, no one is suggesting the studios tag disappear. We just want the Network tag available in the editor and the Network info on the TV details screen.
