New AppleTV app audio offset

All up to date because unfortunately I had auto update set up on the AppleTV.
As has been repeated many times over all over reddit and likely here, the new app is the definition of enshitification.

If it just looked bad that would be one thing but it’s unusable because of the audio offset.

Didnt matter what file - Old plex on AppleTV, infuse, other platforms are working fine for all of the same file but everything ive tried to play in the new plex app has a horrific offset as has been repeated ad nauseam around here. Just want to add another voice to how shithouse this is.
Solution on Reddit is “Install infuse or plezy”… I dont want to, I paid for Plex, I want plex to be functional.

Fortunately I rolled back to the old version (8.45) and im back to working Plex on my AppleTV… Should have to have done that though.

Test your software Plex!
You didnt do that, so now fix it!
When will that happen?

It’s strange. I don’t have an audio offset problem with the new app. However, I did experience this with 8.45. It had an offset adjustment which I had to manually change to a correct it.

My audio chain is very simple: Apple TV 4K (1st generation) to TV via HDMI. My aging ears don’t need anything fancy. But with the same chain, I can’t detect any issues with the new app, whereas I did with 8.45.

If I understand you correctly, you don’t need to use the manual adjustment in 8.45; it just works? Could you describe your audio device chain? Does it involve HomePods?

Obviously, this is something Plex needs to correct.

[Edit]
I looked back through the beta thread for 8.34+ to refresh my memory. Folks were reporting audio sync issues there so the manual adjustment was (re)added. Here’s one comment:

And here’s the reply (Hi @Craig_Holliday!):
https://forums.plex.tv/t/apple-player-update-beta-testing/872121/846

I have multiple Appletv’s - same issue on both.

Didn’t previously have audio offset issues in the old app except for the odd file (never took notice of the details to figure it out as it was extremely rare). Both appletv’s updated to new app, both had same issue.

Both running simple setups - appletv > hdmi > tv with hdmi connected sound bar

but on both I rolled back to the old version and the issue is gone. I don’t want to adjust audio offset for everything I play, I also don’t want to run a beta if Plex can’t even get their live production version working bug free!

So nobody from Plex willing to respond here?
I emailed the only contact on the form which is accounts and they say they cant pass on to anyone else and to post here - but you post here and get nothing.

You’re gonna have many more jumping ship to alternatives if you can’t even respond to the community.

The old audio offset option was added an work around due to the player stack the old app used. Afaik the new player didn’t have the problem in testing which is why it was not added to new player stack. They are investigating why it is happening for some with new player on tvOS. Sorry i do not have any other update/info.

If you have a file that you know causes the issue with the player it would probably help devs figure things out.

Hi! Please consider bringing this feature back, even if you believe the player’s sync issues have been fixed. Some of us need to adjust the audio offset for other reasons, such as Bluetooth latency.

Personally, I have no sync issues when using my TV speakers, but when using my Bose headphones, I experience around 300 ms of audio delay, which I used to be able to compensate for with the audio offset feature.

Being able to set an audio delay is an essential feature of any competent video player, it’s not a “workaround”.
