so… did anyone ever figure out a fix?
For me I was able to resolve it by disabling the second NIC I had in my server.
Dang, my system doesn’t even have a second NIC
Any fixes? Still doesent work for me!
New Plex user here, trying to stream mkv with aac to my Chromecast 2nd gen from Plex Version 1.16.5.1554. When I switch subtitle choice from None to ASS it starts buffering right at the start. I can play without subtitles without issue, and my Chromecast works flawlessly in every other application.
Same issue happening here with me.
Works fine on every device but my Chromecast. Have tried even hardwiring my chromecast and it still does the same.
Isn’t a PC issue, Ryzen 7 1700x, 32GB RAM. WiFi is solid, LAN is gigabit. Streams fine to my phone, laptop, surface fine. Chromecast will lag randomly on video files with subtitles.
Ok… so I haven’t yet tested to see if Subtitles are the issue but in an earlier section I noted that not using Subs (or commenting out the line in /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Profiles)
Chromecast.xml: <SubtitleProfile container="ass" codec="ass" />
to:
Chromecast.xml: <!-- <SubtitleProfile container="ass" codec="ass" /> -->
May have a positive impact. That said I am wondering of google cast has de-supported this codec as it doesnt appear in the supported formats listed on their developer site:
https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/media#subtitles_and_closed_captions
Mine has been doing this for ages I have a gen 1 cc and a gen 2 cc and a ultra all have the same problem and all are hard wired at first I fixed it by changing my programs to h264 but now it will do it almost every second time I know when ever an update is rolled out the computer needs to be switched off that fixes it for a bit but there seems to be no real reason for it all mine are ser to direct play which they do but buffer my system can handle 6 users easy and the times when it has there has only be me on it so not a computer problem YouTube and what ever else I cast works fine just plex , I normally have to wind down the playback to 720 or less before it seems to come right almost like it cant send it quick enough yet I know all my wires are cat 6 .
Can plex answer what is going wrong
its absurd to be aproaching 2 years of this topic showing up first on the search for this problem and no official response
I’m also having stutters on chromecast on files that run fine on all other clients…
Is a chromecast just a bad idea to use as a Plex client? What’s a good cheap alternative? A raspberry pi? The ease of casting from my phone to a chromecast was what drew me into Plex. I’m seriously considering going back to Kodi, stuttering video is unacceptable.
The stutter on my Chromecast is gone after enabling 50 mHz. I actually read a solution that said I had to disable it, but it was already disabled… So I did the opposite and it worked. Is this due to my video files perhaps? Can someone explain this situation to me? Hopefully the issue is resolved for me, I will need to watch a few more files and see if they all run smoothly now.
Same problem here, I always have this kind of symptoms with my chromecast 1 2.4, server ryzen 2600x 32Go.
Smartphone and ps4 work fine.
Every devices is wireless except the server.
Still a problem.
Haven’t tried casting from another device, but from the android app there is serious problems.
Keeping the thread alive… I experienced this same problem today. Everything hard-wired, Netflix, PlutoTV work, Plex hangs at around 6 minutes in. 1st gen Chromecast, Android tablet. I did see some associated closed caption weirdness, they seemed to come on without being selected, and were hard to get rid of.
I believe I’m having the same issue with Gen3 & Gen2 as well I’ve been seeing it randomly start buffering and never comes back. The only workaround I had was to go back 10 seconds and it would continue to play till the next random time. However, now it appears when I try the workaround it either doesn’t work or I need to see the buffering screen as it plays. I need to stop the movie and recast it.
I’m using Wifi and plex version 1.19.2.2737 just did an upgrade today to 1.19.3.2764 see if anything is better. Streaming Netflix and youtube work without issues. Also happening for external users.
I’ve seen it affecting videos with
video H.264 and audio AAC Stereo
Video H.264 and audio AAC 5.1
@DomC would there be any update for this problem?
I having the same problem. Everything hardwire. Chromecast ultra.
Exact same problem here
I having the same problem. Everything hardwire. Chromecast ultra.
It was all perfect for most of the movie, than suddenly it started to buffer.
The logs are not reporting anything unusual, the server is not doing anything else, I am monitoring the cpu load and processes and both are ~ 30% of max values
Would there be any update for this or the chromecast coming? There have been several issues regarding buffering that have gone unanswered since at least February.
