It’s very much not the way to go. Third party data is never going to reliably match against the way YOU want to categorise your music. Sure, I don’t object to it as a default for people with simple libraries, but just give us the option to set flags locally. The feature is unusable for me currently,
Now that I’ve had time to use this feature, I really do like it and feel it’s an upgrade. But I agree with those who think that it’s never going to be perfect, and Plex should provide an option to change the default for albums/singles.
A random example I ran across, George Michael’s re-release that combined Listen Without Prejudice and MTV Unplugged into one larger album. Plex categorizes it as a compilation, which I guess could be considered technically correct (it compiles two albums into one) but in reality, it would replace the existing copies of the albums in the collection. It makes no sense to be down in the compilations.
Unsure if this has been asked already but is there a way to allow sorting album types for unmatched artists?
I have a lot of anime soundtracks and albums and singles that I would love to be able to categorize separately, but musicbrainz is notoriously awful with anime, and has only ever been a burden.
Currently I have the artist unmached and am in the process of making my own covers and tagging the metadata myself, but I can’t see a way to set each album type.
That’s not going to work as Plex depends on Musicbrainz to provide that information. So if the album isn’t matched (to Mucisbrainz), you won’t see that categorization.
Are there any plans to make this feature available similar to how you can just edit an albums name directly? It’s sad for a genuinely cool feature to be locked behind a crappy incomplete database.
Also not knocking musicbrainz specifically, just that no database is going to be 100% complete ever, that’s kinda the whole point to self hosting.
I suppose you’re always free to add those missing albums/artists to Musicbrainz.
There’s a feature suggestion to allow manually overriding (or setting) the album type – Plex has been asked about this option when they first introduced the new feature but haven’t confirmed if it’ll come (Plex isn’t usually commenting on their roadmap).
Hey guys,
Quick question regarding MusicBrainz. So I’ve been amending releases if they’re not correct or missing to make sure my library in Plex is showing the correct categories. But today I added this release
https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/f4507a72-3932-3654-8378-276d99ee73c1
And even though MusicBrainz has it set as a Live album it’s not showing up as one in my library, see below
Any idea why this is happening?
Thanks
I would assume it’s just lag on getting the MB data to our system. If you refresh the artist in the next couple of days I would expect the update to be there.
Ok, thanks for the info. I’ll keep a look out.
Totally agree, running into the same issue with Radiohead’s KID A MNESIA, which is much more of a reissue of two albums than a compilation, but they won’t accept the reasoning.
Just flagging that the Ben Folds Five live album I added to my library is still showing up as a normal album. Anyone with good MusicBrainz knowledge able to shed some light on this?
Thanks
