New iOS Plex Experience - Can't Download Shows/Seasons

Updated to version iOS 2025.14.0 (1037). Download button still don’t showing. And when transcoding movies, the subtitles become huge. Don’t understand how can mess so much from the old stable 8.45 version. Seems like everything is wrong. Every update has problems.. don’t understand how the Plex guys don’t see obvious things that I only need one minute after install to see that is wrong.

installed 2025.14 and downloads still fail instantly

Completely agree with this post when is this going to be fixed?

I used to be able to select the season and pick how many I wanted to download and it would also bypass the watched episodes, but now it downloads the entire season

I’m noticing with the patch yesterday on iOS that downloading seasons are about 10x larger than they are if downloaded individually. I’ve tried different things but keep getting the same result.

Plex has only said it is coming and won’t give a timeline.

Now I can download an entire season at once, but they show up in a big jumbled mess instead of being grouped together as seasons… I’m so sad my app auto-updated. The theme music doesn’t play when I open seasons of shows anymore either.

We’re off grid and watch everything ‘downloaded’ onto an iPad so we don’t waste power by having the computer running. This update ruined a perfect app.

Is it possible to rollback this latest update until they’ve had a chance to fix some of these issues? I’m kind of in the same boat where I can connect to my server only periodically to download the “next” block of unwatched episodes of a series. Downloading 1 at a time is more than a bit annoying. Re-downloading the entire season just seems overkill. Especially when you have limited disk space left on your device…

I really love this plex application and have had my plex pass subscription for oh so many years. I trust the plex team to address these types of issues, but it is hard to understand how this made it through QA like this… It really feels like we took the approach of throw it over the wall and see what the users report…

UPDATE as of today June 12, 2025, the issue remains. What I have found is that the master account that has the Plex Pass linked to it can still download. Subaccounts do not get the option to download even thought the Plex app has it enabled for that person. Come on Plex, This was not a good update. I don’t even like the fact that my folders show on the top bar and I have to go into it to see the normal format of "recently added’, “continue watching” etc… Love the app and the server, poor decision on the release of forcing this change to everyone.

I’m done. I’ve had a Plex Pass since 2014 and the main reason was always the ability to download content to my iPad, watch offline, and have the view status sync back to the server.

Now I get home and have to manually mark everything as watched, delete episode by episode that I’ve seen from that awful and unstructured downloads list on the iPad, and then download new stuff manually.

This is a huge step back for Plex, and it’s been about 4 months without a proper fix or even a clear plan to bring back how it used to work.

For me, it’s the end of an era. I’ve moved everything over to EMBY. While the server and app aren’t as polished, it supports plugins, automatically syncs with Trakt.tv, and most importantly, downloads work just like Plex used to.

I’m still a fan of Plex (hard not to be after 11 years), but what they’ve done these past months is simply a lack of respect for users.

It’s August, and I still can’t download the next N unwatched episodes? It’s just unacceptable, it has been several months, and this was just basic functionality that was available, and you guys decided to mess it up. And there is no real timeline or answer. Very disappointing, and obviously I’m not using Plex for this anymore.

I came here, and my first post ever is to share in the shaming of Plex as a company for the HORRID new app experience.

Over the years I’ve been accepting of hiccups for progress sake, and I even paid monthly for many years instead of buying the lifetime membership purely to help continue supporting, until I could no longer feasibly do so and went in on the lifetime pass.

Plex SHOULD be ashamed at the continued “corpifying” of this once amazing app. There’s no more true user experience, it’s a sales pitch platform with continual removal of key features and pushing users towards the revenue generation era of paid services.

The capability to manage my media with local TV show downloads was a critical feature that has continued to cause problems with the forced garbage experience we have now.

Bring back the reason we paid! Improvements went in the wrong direction, you know it, we know it.

@carlosocean & @executor485 - you aren’t alone wondering why this core feature has been depreciated so much in the new experience. With each update, I’m hoping that we see some progress in getting back to where we were earlier in the year prior to New Experience.

Key things for me:

  • Ability to download X unwatched shows automatically
  • Delete download episodes after day/week/month/refresh
  • Browse downloaded files per show/season, rather than one long list
  • Ability to delete multiple files at a time (multi select)
  • Visual download status when reviewing server/library content

Just for balance, I did want to give thanks to the Plex team for the following:

Downloads are certainly more stable, I’m getting 100% success with new client.
Download speed is also the same as Infuse now, so that is fixed.
I think background downloading is also working far better, haven’t noticed it not working.

PS - One more feature request would be to be able to add “Downloaded” to the bottom nav buttons, it’s a bit hidden currently.

You can Browse downloaded files per Episode, show or season :white_check_mark:

Multi select Delete has a Limited function at present in that you can delete a Show, Season or Episode at once

Visual status of Download is available from: Avatar/ Downloads/ In Progress :white_check_mark:

For further functionality try Varys for Plex

https://support.varys-app.com/hc/en-us/articles/360008887358-Varys-for-Plex-vs-Remote-for-Tautulli-vs-Plex-Dash

I must be missing something, as I can’t find a way on iOS client to see anything other than a list of either All/Episodes/Movies, nor any ability to delete in any other way than file by file or download status.

Is this more about the desktop client, and enhancements with Varys (that I hadn’t heard about until just now, will look into it, thanks for the tip)?

Long Press Show Poster = Season or Show if one Season Download - Delete season

Long Press Episode Poster = Episode Download - Delete Episode

To Delete Show horizontal Ellipsis - Delete

Right understand, got all that. Appreciate the reply and for the offer of help.

It’s not about downloading or deleting single episodes, the issue is that downloaded files are in a big long list without any ability to browse the downloaded shows per Show or Episode & that you need to delete downloaded episodes one by one (and it takes three taps per episode).

I travel quite a bit for work, so downloads are rather important to me so I have more than the average bear I’m sure. The old client approached this in a better way for heavy usage. I currently have over 30 shows I need to remove from my iPad, I’m considering deleting the app and re-installing as it might be quicker.

Don’t Understand you can download a Season or Single Season Show, then open that Season. By sound of things you maybe better of having a 1TB SSD Samsung T7 and add the files as required That is exactly what I did for my wife when she was in hospital. She added the shows to her IPad Pro Files app and consumed them as required. I would replenish the content on SSD for my next visit, when there was good mobile signal she used the Plex app remotely.

Anyway each to there own, I believe features will come like your requesting in time.

In the hope that a picture/video tells a thousand words. This is how downloads show up for me, I can’t find any way to view differently. Even in offline mode.

We’re these download singularly? I see now they were not. Will report this to the testing Group.
