Granted, I’m not a graphic artist, but it always boggles my mind how much time, money, and effort is required to change the font of a few letters :upside_down_face:

When I saw the old plex logo, I always assumed the negative space between the E and the chevron was made to intentionally look like a house, with the meaning that you can stream and play using a home server. Since that is now quite obviously gone, I assume that either that negative space was just in my own head this whole time, or the new logo marks a change of focus/de-emphasis on the home aspect, and a new focus on centralizing your available streaming services (Discover?)

Well now I can’t unsee it. Longtime Plex user, and I never noticed that (whether it was intentional design or not)

If there is a shift from home streaming to media aggregation, it isn’t hard to understand why. Way too much of PLEX’s business model has been based on stuff that they don’t charge for. I’m not sure how much they make on Plex Pass fees but for those of us who paid a lifetime membership, that amout is now zip. A huge numbe of PLEX users have the free server software and are doing just fine, thank you very much. How does PLEX pay the rent with that business model? They don’t.
So they start streaming stuff and linking to over systems that will pay PLEX to carry their content over their existing network. Fees will be per channel for those streaming platforms who want PLEX to carry them or by ad revenue for the channels PLEX works up themselves. That is cash flow - without which you can’t make payroll.
If PLEX is going to survive so that us home streamers can enjoy what they built, we will have to contend with the fact that the company is more interested in revenue generating streaming content than us for the forseeable future. They have to be.

I wasn’t criticizing any potential shift in focus (another thing I am not is a bean counter), just asking whether my interpretation of the change in font was accurate or just in my own head.

I don’t really mind any shift in this realm either, as I would love to use plex as a one stop shop for all things media- PROVIDED they do it right, and also not forget to include support in these new functions to managed users (that’s the only way they become useful to me at least)

P.S.- I don’t think it’s “PLEX” anymore- based on the new logo, wouldn’t that just be “plex”?

I loved the old logo. I find the new one horrendous.

I’m fine with the new logo. And I see it displayed on the Roku app. But I still see the old logo in all caps in Google Chrome for Windows. I have version 1.27…1.5891 (or is it Plex Web version 4.76.1 - why are there 2 different version numbers for the same software?).

Anyway, the old all-caps logo is still showing on my computer.

One is for the server, the other for the client.

Plex Media Server:

  • Version number: Settings → Server_Name → General.
  • 1.26.x.yyyy, 1.27.x.yyyy, etc.

Plex Web:

  • Version number: Settings → Plex Web → General
  • Bundled: Currently 4.76.1. Version bundled with Plex Media Server. This is the version that loads when you point your browser directly at your server. Used for claiming server, if internet is not available, etc.
  • Hosted: Currently 4.83.2. The current release with latest features & fixes. This version loads when you use app.plex.tv.

Hey Plex team,

I’m using plex on my PS4 PRO and displaying the app with a 4K UHD Projector on a screen

The new logo seems really low resolution… I can pretty much count the pixels. :upside_down_face:

Is there a way to replace the app loading screen with a higher resolution logo?

Much appreciated!
Cheers!
