New media not showing up

For two years I have been fighting with a plex problem. When I log into ANY of my Web, TV, Desktop app plex instances, the videos it shows as being “Most recently added” are now 2 years ago. So it’s decided that my plex server is stuck forever 2 years ago.

But alas, I can fix it … if I clear the cache, clear the cache of the plex server .. it will allow me to see my newly uploaded content… for about 4 - 6ish hours. Then we’re back to 2 years ago.

I did pay for the lifetime plex pass, so perhaps they’ve decided they want to punish people who don’t pay monthly.

To be clear, i’ve tried clearing the cache on the desktop, and on the browser, and on the tv, i’ve tried uninstalling the tv, and then clearing the cache on every computer and laptop and phone and tablet in the house, then clearing the server.

Only clearing the cache on the server works, but only for a short period of time, and then back to only allowing content uploaded 2 years ago.

Just to be clear, i keep referring to 2 years ago. It was always a static 2 years… this has been happing for 2 years, it was that moment in time that the library froze, and it keeps going back to, i’ve been dealing with this problem for 2 years now and that time window keeps getting bigger.

Also, I run the plex app on Truenas, it is up to date.

It was recommended to try looking at the epoch of some of the media, they are NOT in future dates.

I was also tried a recommendation to use the tool found at: GitHub - ChuckPa/DBRepair: Database repair utility for Plex Media Server databases

The tool did run successfully, but did NOT resolve the issue.

Parsing logs is an art form. There are patterns you look for, and then there are things that just jump out at you.

Can you get the XML from one of the recently added records when its glitched?

Ok, nothing is standing out obvious.

Can you create a new library and copy 4-5 movies to it and see if you are seeing similar issues?

Actually that’s another symptom I had. I did create two new libraries, and they work when i have cleared cache, but they show up as unavailable when whatever this is happens. Clear the cache and they come back.

Okay, We may have found the problem here.

I migrated my plex server from Qnap to Truenas,

I went to look at the file names for the most recent two videos The first one was easy, and the second one I couldn’t find in my media folder.. so I went into plex and asked for the file info there included CACHEDEV_1 in the file name and I was like… Waiiiit a minute.

So, I can say that I had two plex media servers, one on Qnap and One on Truenas,

I have deleted the Qnap one, and will report back to notify everyone whether or not that was the fix!

Filename for most recent file was:
Corpse Bride (2005)\Corpse Bride (2005).mp4

It has been 24 hours, and I can report back that indeed the problem seems to have been that not only did I have two plex servers running simultaneously in the house, because I had migrated they probably had the same ID somewhere hidden in them, and they were battling for dominence.

Have you confirmed (in the MP4 properties) what the title is?

It either must be the correct, clean, title -or- blank.

Plex does have the metadata and can match it.

Thanks for the help! But yup turns out the problem was that I had “Migrated” from a Plex server hosted on my Qnap, to a plex server hosted on a TrueNAS. But at some point the plex server on the old Qnap re-started itself and then was fighting for dominence. Nothing to do with files or media. which explains why all the database corruption stuff and the XML stuff people were asking for were ‘wrong’ in the traditional sense :slight_smile:
