[BUG] Recent movies randomly disappear on load

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6442
Player Version#: 4.95.2 (hosted)

UPDATE: This has been moved to the PMS category (from plex-web).

There is something really random (annoying) going on, with the most recent PlexWeb PMS release.

I have 6 different movie libraries, which has Include in home screen and global search enabled. The most recent movies are shown on the front page under Recently Added Movies.

Movies are randomly disappearing. When I use the arrows on the right side, the sliding covers are duplicated. When the slide animation is running, it duplicates movies (because some are missing) or slides the wrong amount of covers and the offset is wrong.

This is correct (notice the second cover)

When I hit reload (F5), I get this (where did the second movie go?)

Slide animation. Notice the dublicated covers, because some are missing in the UI, but probably not in the clientside response (JS).

This happens so randomly … and it is sooo annoying. This has been going on for a few days now. Yes, I have tried to Disable cache, No extensions enabled … log out and back in.

Does each and every of these libraries already use the new agent “Plex Movie”?

Yes. All libraries use Plex Movie and has been for a long time.

I reset Manage Recommendations for all these libraries a few hours ago, to check if this would change anything. Which it didn’t.

There is one strange thing happening though. When I open PlexWeb. I can see that covers are loaded (mainly from Movies lib) on Recently Added Movies, but a few covers (from Comedy lib) are loaded delayed (like 50ms) … and they kinda fly-in from the left. It is exactly these covers, that randomly disappear.

I’ll try to make a screen grab of the delayed fly-in. Kinda hard, when it is this random. Right now I can not get the second cover to show at all.

Arrow sliding animation:
Animation

The movie Amsterdam should only be visible once. When all covers are loaded (when it random happens), the animation is also correct.

So I just tested this in multiple browsers (all latest version).

The same problem in:

  • Google Chrome 107.0.5304.123
  • Microsoft Edge 107.0.1418.62
  • Mozilla Firefox 107.0.1

This does actually look like it is a PMS (v1.30.0.6442) problem. I get the exact same problem on Plex for iOS, Plex for tvOS (AppleTV) and Plex for LG.

I have changed category of this thread to PMS and updated the first message.

Sorry for asking the usual: check the health of your database and then perform the repair procedure anyway

I not sure if you can use this on QNAP, but it’s conceivable: Suggested SQLite3 DB Optimizations - #69 by ChuckPa

Thanks Otto

The only change that has been made in the last few months are, that I’ve changed the e-mail address on my Plex credentials.

I tried Check, Vacuum, Reindex and Repair. Everything passed no errors detected. This didn’t change anything though :face_exhaling:

The Plex Media Server logs doesn’t really show any errors. Only the usual SQLite warn field/column warnings (debug is not enabled):

@OttoKerner Did you have a chance to look at this? :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

How does one get an answer on this? :expressionless:

Hallo?

Guys!? How is one supposed to get any help on a bug, when a response here can be unnoticed for this long.

@OttoKerner ping

Working hypothesis:
You have several libraries of the type Movies, and
you have enabled “Merge Recently Added items” under Manage - Libraries
Some libraries deliver their Recently Added items faster. Then one or several libraries come in late and what you see “sliding in” are the items from these slower libraries which are getting integrated late.

I’d try and identify the library(s) which is the slow one.
You could watch and click on one of the “late” posters and see if they consistently come from the same library(s) over a few days.
Then, just for the sake of testing, disable the display of that library on the home page using its Visibility selector.
See if the behaviour is still the same.

Have you ever looked at GitHub - ChuckPa/PlexDBRepair: Database repair utility for Plex Media Server databases?

This is correct. This doesn’t explain the random missing posters though. If it was just a small delay, it wouldn’t be a “problem”, but randomly missing covers is another thing (from other libs than “Movies” - first in the left menu). I have noticed that is happens mostly on Movies \ Comedy.

Yes, as shown here:
