New movie agent and embedded metadata

Plex Media Server 1.20.0 (currently in beta) is introducing a new version of the movie agent that allows to configure if you want to use embedded metadata over that from online sources.

Sorry to Hijack the thread. Will this feature still be unable to read metadata in mkv files? I couldn’t see any reference to file types on “Introducing the new Plex Movie agent

According to my understanding, the new agent does also not read embedded metadata from matroska containers (mkv, mka…).

Then let’s don’t…

The new agent does read some metadata from MKV files. Particularly the ‘Title’ meta tag is read now.
I haven’t conducted an extensive test yet, which meta tags are read and which aren’t.

We don’t currently support any MKV tags but I’ll take a look at this when I have some time.

That sounds like the same thing that’s been happening for 20 years - and now it’s not only MP4/M4V users who are victimized. Everybody gets a beat down.

Cool.

Hey, I guess its kinda of related, but the new agent match *.pt-BR.srt subs as Unknown, which is very annoying for Brazilians users.

Hope you guys can improve that.

PS: Old agent used Portuguese even for Brazilian Portuguese subs, its not great, but way better than Unknown.

Yep, currently we only support 2 and 3 letter language codes for sidecar subtitles - it is something I would like to look into fixing at some point.

pob should work then? I could use it instead.

EDIT: No, it doesn’t work with pob, just tried. Anyway, plex should look into proper addressing the really old issue with Brazilian Portuguese.

So, nothing new?

No not yet.

pob isn’t an official ISO639.2 language code which is why it doesn’t work.

Please could you look into reading MKV tags? It would be a huge bonus.

My particular use case is for recordings of live TV from TVHeadend. They come with title, subtitle, description etc embedded into the MKV, and it would be great if this could be read by Plex.
