New music Metadata agent doesn't like compilation albums or albums by multiple artists

No difference. I will delete the library and let you know if that fixes it.

I’m pretty sure it will. But I hoped to get some more diagnostic info about why this happened to you.

No change still no artist on VA. I can roll back and I took a snap shot.

I’ve rolled back.

The only VA albums that display correctly are ones that are .m4a format, I don’t have may as these where ripped in iTunes many years ago but the tags have been manually edited by me.

Have you checked the agent settings?

Even when I get a VA album and select match and select Personal Media Artists it still wont work.

The info Release “Gatecrasher Classics” by Various Artists - MusicBrainz is correct for the album and if I use plex music agent it still only shows song names not artists and now it’s not listed as VA but as Denis Leary and the only way to get back is to delete the files scan the folder so that plex removes the album and then add it back using local tags but still on artist name.

Also when you re add the album plex will display it correctly initially but the changes it to have no artists.

How’s it look like if you click on the last.fm button?
The same?

Yes the same. Plex is not pulling the artist name when praising the meta data it correctly get all of the other info. It’s odd that plex will pick up all of the info on m4a/mp4 files but not flac/mp3. I’m re importing over 800 albums in flac a few at a time and this issue only started after the sever updated to 1.18.

Actually, if you are adding your media “as new”, it should definitely work if you performed the library conversion.

Have you checked your Plex database for corruption?

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.

I will have to do this later as the server is in use a the moment. Will post back later. Even when I deleted the complete music library and added it back plex still did not show artists for VA albums.

Here are my logs.
Plex Media Server Logs_2019-10-13_20-46-32.zip (3.8 MB)

OK, there was no indication of a damaged database in the logs.
I will pass on the log files to the developers. Maybe they can shed some light on the issue.

Thanks, I appreciate it and patiently await a fix.

Oh man, if only Plex would support the “Part Of Compilation” (TCMP) tag, all of this complexity in the scanner agent would be avoided. You would even easily be able to group Compilations in a separate subgroup in the library…

So many design decisions from years ago that keep biting us in the xxx. Don’t even get me started on the decision to make Albums a database table and not group them dynamically from tracks, which would’ve gotten rid of silliness like Genres and Years only existing on the Album level.

And yes I realise, changing it now will break pretty much everything.

Sorry to dig up an old post. I wanted to contribute to the general database as well but wasn’t sure if it was possible to submit genre and mood tags that don’t already exist. Do you know?

You can submit genre on MusicBrainz, but I’m not 100% sure if you can submit genre and mood on AllMusic.
