There is a new parameter “Allow Friend Request From” in Settings / Privacy / Manage Profile Privacy, and the default option is “Anyone Signed into Plex”. So if you do not want to receive friend requests from randos I guess you have to change it to “Nobody”. From now I only see this in the Mobile App.
Again Plex creating new features as opt-out instead of opt-in.
Before this preference existed, anyone could ask you to be their friend. i.e. “befriending” has already been a thing in Plex for years.
It was initially tied to library sharing but has been separated since a while.
But until now there was no way to disable that.
The introduction of this preference doesn’t change that default behavior.
The initial state of this preference is therefore reflecting that.
It would be bad if this would suddenly get disabled for all users, just because there is now a preference.
Is this setting only visible on mobile apps? So if I do not have an updated mobile app, I cannot turn this setting off for my account? Anyone can send me friend requests?
FYI, I checked my Do Not Sell page, and there are a number of TCF vendors that are enabled as yes, so here is a friendly reminder to go in and check the ALL NO box to disable them all again.
Edit: Just checked my Android Fire tablet. I cannot load the Account Visibility & Activity Sharing section of my Settings > Privacy. It errors out quickly with two generic errors (both are something like “an error has occurred, try again later”). After trying a bit, I only get one error, and now I get no errors, the screen just flashes fast and nothing else happens.
I am in a managed user account, so I swapped to the base admin account, and I can open this menu, but there is not any new setting. I must not have the new experience app on my Fire. Swapping back to my managed user, it still fails to load this page. Must be an issue with managed users.
