This looks super fantastic! I have been waiting for something like the XMBC Remote app for what feels like a long time. I love an app that can add in the info, album/cover art, etc. Most other remote apps do not have more than a set of buttons :frowning:

First great that we finally get a app that will probably have full functionality instead of just some functions!



right now i use xmote and that has a great option. It polls a dump screen of the viewing window, that way you can always see what it is playing that instant. Perhaps you can check that if possible.



Or maybe incorporate a vnc possibility like Jaadu. Jaadu also has remote possibilities, and you can check on screen, or directly switch to osx if nessacary for or possibilities.

Maybe you can check for battery safe time. Some apps drain the battery because of continuos connections, while others break connection after locking the phone.



Anyway, im really curious what you will come up with. I think the best way would be a combination of xmote with Jaadu and Air mouse.



plus i wold love to be a beta tester! i have been looking for al sorts of ways to to get the best remote.

Xmote must be one of the worst offenders on bad UI. Volume slider was impossible to adjust , screen dump feature is CPU hog on both MAC and iPhone ( drained battery in minutes) . Granted i tried it months ago but i was so dissapointed i never wanna see it again :-) I think XBMCremote became pretty much only Iphone remote to use with XBMC.

To address a few of your questions:

  1. I will charge a nominal price, to justify the costs involved in development (art, icon, Apple Dev Program, etc.)
  2. I played with some color schemes, and I think Ill stick with the blue motif for the initial release. I will incorporate themes in a minor release.
  3. Personally, I hate UIs that mimic a physical remote with buttons cluttered all over the screen. I am currently working on a gesture based control, so you can keep your eyes on the HDTV screen.



    I will try to keep just the essential functionality in the initial release, and then add some features in subsequent releases. I also have an idea for a desktop service that will pair the iPhone app to Plex using bonjour, and will launch Plex if it is not already running! Possibly, if that turns out to be successful, the Plex devs can roll that service into Plex itself (Plex devs, I look forward to hearing from you). Ill contact a hand-full of you for beta testing soon. I hope to submit the app to the AppStore first week of January.
